What are the relative merits of staying in ops consulting vs going into an ops role in industry if I want a shot at being a VP / CSCO some day?

Now I'm willing to pursue my career in Data Science.
Can anyone help me to guide how I can shape my future career with doing some courses related to R, Python or from Data Science.

I had other offers prior to accepting this job that may still be options, and going back to my old job (for a pay cut) might also be an option.
