Hello, I have received an offer from Southwest Airlines as a Associate Technology Analyst with their direct college hire program. Will be graduating in May with a degree in MIS and also have internships experience as a Business Systems analyst intern. The salary compensation started off at 66,500 but was looking for the 75k range and they got back to me saying the best they can do is 68,500. They also have a 401k company match up to 9.3%. Do you think this is a solid offer for this job market?

I have 29 years of experience and will be retiring in May!! Really wanted to make it to 30 but not in this mess. I am grandfathered in at age plus years of service must equal 80, but a few years after I began teaching Texas changed their requirement to age plus service years must equal 90. I’m 52, so added to my 29 years of service... that’s 81 and I qualify! 😉

WOW!! Most impressive!! 👏🏻 Good for her!!
Should have said 10 years to be vested, not 20.

In Michigan we are vested at 10 years but to get your full pension you must teach for 30 years (your age is not factor).
However until recently teachers USED to be able to buy up to 5 years & those that did could retire with a full pension. Buying years was vey expensive & the cost was dependent on your age & years experience when you bought, it could easily cost you $50,000 with the money coming out of every paycheck for next 20+ years.
I agree with you. I’m 30 years but only 56. Plus, I lost time when I went out on maternity. Ca blows!!!!
I believe Indiana is 10 years vested and the same rule of 85.
And even fully vested I will take a 30% cut in pay at retirement... are other states that way??? I was SHOCKED!!
Actually, after 40 years, no longer taking out for SS, union dues, and such, my pension check is higher than my monthly paycheck was. My SS check covers my insurance until I hit 65
My mother retired when she was 51 after she took advantage of a couple of opportunities to buy extra years. I will be 57.
I believe WI is still 85. Age plus years....I retired at 102. 40 years + age
Florida the number of years to be vested varies by county. I came from Hillsborough county where it was 6 years. Retirement is at 62 or after 30 years of teaching.
I’m reading these post and just because your district says you qualify for retirement after so many years and age.... you really need to look at what you will be taking home. Again, in California there is No incentive for starting to teach at 22... that individual will have the years invested althiugh will still need to go to about 59 on up to get the larger pension. A big difference if people retire at 58 for example. Severe pay cut in pension. California needs a better retirement system for teachers who started young.
