Biggest city in the south. Family and friends in the south. Carved out a nice life so far
I love the diversity - Atlanta has vibrant communities from all racial and ethnographic backgrounds, as well as a robust and inclusive LGBTQ community, which is important to me. It’s a city of transplants which also brings a diversity of perspectives. I love the airport and haven’t taken a connecting flight since before I moved here in 2008 (a huge benefit when I was traveling weekly for consulting pre-pandemic). I love the variety of food options and the sports teams (even if they aren’t that good). I love the history of the Civil Rights movement. I love the many different companies here, both old and new. It’s not HCOL but you get a lot of the benefits of a higher-tier city. I love the Beltline and its expansion. I do wish there was a better arts and culture scene (theater, museums) but for all the other benefits, I can live with what we have.
Feels much less claustrophobic than other large US cities (other than maybe DC and Dallas). Fairly spread out and I like that - gives the whole city a neighborhood feel and leaves room for tons of trees.
Dramatically lower COL than NYC/SF, although prices continue to rise.
It’s not NYC but the food scene here is quite good and on par with a major US city.
Music scene is great. Access to mountains and nature isn’t Denver quality but still excellent (unfortunately beach is a 4 hour drive though). Brewery scene is excellent. Sports are excellent. Lots of good weekend trips within driving distance. Killer airport. Lots of big companies and increasing tech footprint. Beltline is phenomenal.
People are typically great. Politically, it’s probably the most liberal place in the entire South, which means that it sort of washes out to “very moderate left.”
Beltline? Cool. Which neighborhood are you in?
Friends and family are the only thing keeping me here. If that wasn’t a concern I’d move in a heartbeat
high cost of living nowadays, high crime, some of the worst traffic/sprawl in the country, all the good parks and lakes nearby are overcrowded and not worth going to anymore
At least we have chicken wings and rappers though, I guess that’s something
My job and that’s about it lmao
The culture, people, cost of living, and variety of things to do.
Hartsfield Jackson. Visiting friends, vacationing, etc is almost always accessible via a cheap, nonstop flight.
Definitely agree with the airport in terms of options but every time I fly into an airport like Nashville, STL, KC, it’s a breath of fresh air to get in and out quickly. ATL is such a process with everything. 2 observations:
1) Stupid conveyor systems for our luggage thru security. It had to be some government family members company or something. The fact that they have to have a TSA agent explain it shows it’s a horrendous system.
2) We have to be one of the biggest cities to only have 1 airport. I think we could easily support a 2nd north of the city airport.
