I think it really depends. Some people proclaim SF to be the “Gay Mecca” but from my experience as a black gay guy, it wasn’t black lgbt friendly. But with that said: DC is a great gay city, NY, ATL, LA, Miami, Houston, Austin are all cool as well. Haven’t experienced Boston firsthand.
SF is land for white gay men in general
Hmm Kpmg 1 seems weird you added “not large black population” as an addition to San Diego being a good city. 🤔
OMG not my intent. I was just sharing observations since people were saying where they felt comfortable race wise. I am in an interracial marriage myself...
A1 I'm in LA and would agree. Moved here from Chicago a few years ago. My take: if you live in weho and are comfortable traveling in circles where everyone looks and acts similarly, you'll have a social life in no time. If you live further afield (I'm in a beach community) you'll have to work a bit harder to meet people with common interests. It was much easier in Chicago, where everyone seemed to mingle on even terms in boystown. Those winters though...
NY too to some extent. Better luck in cities that aren’t so diverse ironically
As a DC (and Asian) person - I’ve been pleasantly surprised by DC. It’s not perfect but not convinced a perfect place exists
Chicago is good and very underrated
Asian in SF! Damn, it’s hard! So competitive!
I’m surprised Chicago isn’t on your list C1
My list isn’t comprehensive, definitely feel free to add!
Top 5 in no order: NYC, LA, SF, Chicago, DC.
DC and Chicago would be my top choices.
Not a gay male, but I have lived in Chicago and D.C. Both have great gay scenes but I absolutely love Chicago and Boystown.
ATL is a great lgbtq city and reasonably low cost of living.
Your experience as a gay man in LA will vary largely depending on where you choose to live (LA is big and some pockets don’t have large LGBT populations) and how into the gay scene you want to be. Weho is definitely what it looks like on tv, in my opinion. I’m actually trying to move out of LA and to Chicago or NY, because it’s not really a city (again, size) and also because I don’t particularly find it very easy to befriend other young gay professionals. Other than that and, I love LA. My two cents but take everything with a grain of salt.
Currently in DC, in my 20s. Lived in Boston, NYC, and DC since college. All are awesome, super accepting, blah blah. NYC probably has the edge plainly because of population. The different, I guess best term, gay niches are all bigger when you have a bigger pool
Should Asians avoid SF? Lol
San Diego is such a sleeper...tons of gays and acceptance. Plenty of Asians. Not large black population. Plus all the other good things about SD.
Chicago’s good for Asians
