What are the typical Biglaw salaries in Canada? Is there any semblance of a Cravath scale there? If anyone has insight into Europe (excluding London - e.g. Brussels, Paris, Frankfurt) I’d appreciate it too.

London big law scales depend on the type of firm. The “Magic Circle” starts at about £100k. This is Freshfields, Clifford chance, Slaughter and May, Allen & Overy and Linklaters. The v10 US firms pay their London associates the same as NYC. This is currently about £145k and the group comprises Latham, Kirkland, Akin Gump, Milbank, Dechert, etc. All other international firms in London offer between 65k to 100k as starting salaries.

In Paris, the gross pay is (generally) the same as in London for similar firms, but the net compensation ends up being lower because of all the fiscal/ bar association contributions. People paid top of the market contribute *at least* 45% of their compensation if not more

Toronto big law starting is around 110k

You can find most firm specific info here: https://www.nalpcanada.com

This is a decent guide for starting salaries in the larger Canadian markets: https://www.zsa.ca/salary-guide/. Bonuses can be pretty different between the firms, even in the same city.

Hi Tax Bowlers, I'm an experienced associate (2yrs) in a Big 4 Transfer Pricing division. I have reached a point in my career where I am considering taking up a professional certification. Several colleagues recommended taking up either ACCA or CFA, however, I see little connection between these certifications and the work that I am currently doing, and what I plan to do in the future. What would you guys suggest? Would it be detrimental to my career if I did not take up any certifications?

How do you guys deal with staff who turn in incomplete projects right at the timeline you set with them? And they then use nonsensical questions as an “excuse” for why they don’t finish their work. I’m due to get the vaccine tomorrow and feeling under the weather today with some cold like symptoms (fatigued, slightly sore throat, slight muscle aches). I often get these symptoms right before my period, which is scheduled to arrive in the next couple of days, so could be that, but I also don’t want to risk (i) getting anyone sick at the vaccination clinic or (ii) getting the vaccine if I’m actually sick. Would you postpone?

I will be enrolling in day 1 CPT college but was told I don’t need to go back to hone country to get my visa stamp on passport. My concern is will this affect me down the road if I apply for green card let’s say in 4 years. Because my passport does not have a valid visa after this year but I will still be staying in the USA under my masters I-20. Thanks!
