Start your timer fresh every time you start a new task, even on the same file (as opposed to running timer the whole time and breaking things out later). I would also say don't bill for billing. You could also structure your days with quicker 0.1 tasks right in the morning and the stuff you will need a few hours (or more) for in the afternoon/evening. That way you tend to start with a surplus of hours billed versus actual time worked initially.
MC1 - totally agreed. With this method, you could bill a client for half an hour with 5 minutes of work if you just spend a minute each on what you’ve deemed to be 5 different tasks….
Honestly, it never comes down to “billing for entering time”. I know how much I work each day. That’s how much I bill.
