What are ways you can capture a little more extra time when billing? (So far, I’ve heard rounding up my entries by .1, to even including writing the billing entry itself in the total time of the task).

Start your timer fresh every time you start a new task, even on the same file (as opposed to running timer the whole time and breaking things out later). I would also say don't bill for billing. You could also structure your days with quicker 0.1 tasks right in the morning and the stuff you will need a few hours (or more) for in the afternoon/evening. That way you tend to start with a surplus of hours billed versus actual time worked initially.

MC1 - totally agreed. With this method, you could bill a client for half an hour with 5 minutes of work if you just spend a minute each on what you’ve deemed to be 5 different tasks….

Honestly, it never comes down to “billing for entering time”. I know how much I work each day. That’s how much I bill.

Any tips for helping to get operations work recognized? I’m officially in ops but cover programs, business, and catch-all organizational needs. In the last year we rebranded and scaled 500% (staff, program offerings, funding) and I was the sole employee covering organizational ops at 100% during that time. When I proposed a title and compensation review, I was told I didn’t achieve enough impact. Unfortunately skills in project management and operations are not weighed heavily in comp reviews.

Confession: I love staying home with my husband and dog, and I kinda dread the pandemic ending. I don’t want to be forced to leave my house. I never want to go to the office again. I don’t really miss socializing with colleagues and friends. I absolutely love staying home and dread the day I’m expected to go into the office even a couple of days a week. I think I’ll be very depressed leaving my husband and dog every day after seeing how nice it is to stay home with them.
