$20.5k of pretax 401k (total stock)
$37k of after-tax 401k (with an in-service conversion to Roth to complete the mega back door ) (total stock)
$12k for me and my spouse’s Roth IRAs
$20k to taxable brokerage (total stock)
$2.5k on a gaming laptop!!!!!!!!

A7, loving the investment protips, but let's get to the truly important stuff-- specs on your gaming PC? Prebuilt or DIY? And which games do you play?

Just my boring perspective, but every dollar of my bonus money while in biglaw went to investments. Allowed me to build up enough of a significant financial cushion to have the courage to leave.

Definitely not. And I spent 10k on a ring last year if it makes you feel better 😅

I paid off my student loans earlier this year, and every cent of all of my previous bonuses went toward those (or my wedding). This year, I am treating myself to a pergola, fire pit and outdoor seating for my backyard.

Yo, anyone spending $100k on a wedding grew up privileged. People that grew up broke are not going to prioritize paying for a wedding vs paying off debt.

This incessant need to label everyone who is not disadvantaged as “privileged” is becoming both annoying and meaningless.

Is it important to offer support staff that speak a foreign language or is it sufficient if the attorney can communicate with the client? We had one bilingual paralegal and another who is not. The bilingual one left us some time ago.

Thus, we are left with one who can’t communicate with about 25% of our clients. And there just isn’t enough revenue to support two paralegals despite my partner pushing us to hire.
