I recently moved out of the marital house into an apartment,m. What should my next steps look like at this point? Do I need counseling?

Considering a position at Amazon (specifically, AWS healthcare division). I have the potential to nearly triple my salary but at the cost of (what I hear is) horrible WLB. Also potentially thinking of having another kid soon.

Should I go for it anyway? Is the WLB at AWS as bad as they say?

How do you deal with a child who will pee on themselves for the attention? I have a student who does this two-three times a week. I have never experienced his before, and not sure what to do.

How have you broke the news to your boss that you’re looking to make a career change and leave the practice? I am the Sr. Paralegal at my firm (7+ years) and work for a solo practitioner in a very busy wage & hour class action practice. We have one other legal assistant and law clerk. I don’t want to burn bridges, but after seeing how he gave the cold shoulder to his paralegal of 10+ years after going on maternity leave and never coming back, I don’t see how I can’t expect the same treatment.

Any partners here that can share how they handled maternity leave? I'm early in my pregnancy (~9 weeks) but starting to feel anxious / unethical about certain work-related things, like new business calls. I keep having the conversations - the outcome of which is clients expecting to have me as their advisor - knowing that I'll be at least mostly unavailable during the fall busy season. Since the start of my career, I have been working in an outsourcing accounting group, mostly doing accounting work for small/mid-size businesses. I am a CPA. At this point in my life, I am thinking of moving to a corporate accounting job. Make no mistake about it, these shootings will continue. Are you aware that since Columbine there have been over 300,000 students victimized in some way my school shootings. And colleagues we too have been traumatized and victimized.

Should I max out my HSA or my 401K first? Torn on whether to keep high deductible /HSA plan & it's open enrollment. Dads, how much parental leave did you take vs available? Lateraled in January and baby is due December. Firm offers 9 weeks for non primary caregiver for reference. I'd be inclined to "take it all" but a bit nervous about missing a ton of time with increasing economic uncertainty.

I’ve been asked to weigh in on how to improve my firms parental leave policy. It’s currently 8 weeks paid for birth parent with an extra week for each year at the firm (up to 12 weeks total) and 2 weeks paid for non-birth parent. I’m in a major city, firm is a boutique that has been around a very long time. What would you suggest? Any studies or research you’ve seen recently on trends in parental leave policies also helpful.
