Ways to ultivate optimism: 1. Reframe. What if this (challenge) isn't happening TO you, it's happening FOR you? 2. Refocus. You can choose on what to train your attention. If the watching the dumpster fire is not serving you, choose differently. 3. Embrace growth. Lean in to the feedback of your struggles with acceptance and curiosity. In the face of the feedback of failure, be as kind to yourself as you would a friend. Setbacks happen. Baby-steps count too. https://inservice.ascd.org/how-educators-can-cultivate-optimism-in-the-new-year/

Look into an au pair. They’re a lot cheaper than a nanny, though often harder to vet and you need space for them to live (hard in the city). There are also homecare options that are basically smaller day cares run out of people’s homes. Quality is more variable than the big daycares like KinderCare but cheaper. I’m not sure if they have them in NY, I looked into it when I lived in CA. Yea, childcare costs are out of control.
That’s a good point. It’s more that I have a hard time figuring out how lower income families manage. What if you need two incomes just to get by and then you have 2 kids who need childcare while both parents are working?
$800 per week plus a monthly metro card. I stopped working a year ago. My former nanny is looking. She’s awesome and still visits the kids. She was with for 7 years.
$20-$25 an hour for a nanny. Daycare is anywhere from 2000-3500 a month, per kid.
Daycare is $2k a month, nanny $20 an hour for 15 hours a week. So we’re paying about $3k/month for 1 kid. Insane
3500/m per child for daycare - $20/hour for after care or occasional date night care. Daycamp summer camp is 8k per child for the summer
Holy hell.....I should change careers and get in the daycare business!
😐
Hoboken here - $700 for 40 hours a week, plus monthly PATH card
I’m in the same boat OP - I think this is why they say unless both parents have high salaried jobs, once two kids are in the picture it makes more sense for one parent to stay home. Also why most people don’t stay in NYC to have kids haha. Maybe look into a nanny share, daycare at the Y, and working out a flex schedule with work. Good luck OP, we can do this!
A single nanny is absolutely out of the question for now haha but I’ll look into a nanny share. We live in the UES and found a couple of daycare options in the $2500 range that we could swing. We’ll start doing visits pretty soon.
$130/day. But she also cleans and cooks
