Has anyone gone into compliance for a state university & hospital? As counsel or a compliance officer? Looking for insight how this compares to firm lifestyle & billable hours.
Anyone have mandatory PTO during the holidays? Our leadership is making us use PTO days if we don't have billable work between Xmas & NYE. I don't even celebrate Xmas, kind of annoyed
Currently a second-year associate at a regional firm. I have become really unhappy with the life-style at a firm and the constant stress of meeting my billable requirements. It was always my goal to go in-house, but I know I likely lack the requisite experience to make a move somewhere that can offer meaningful advancement. Any advice? I know it will likely be that I need to “stick it out” for a few more years, but I am just extremely dissatisfied with the prospect of being at a firm for years.
Is it just me or the average billable work in infrastructure transactions has blown off steam in the last couple of weeks?
How many billable hours do you charge a year?
I have a utilization question: if you’re scheduled for 40 billable hours in a week but you finish the work in 30 hours you’re 75% utilized which may or may not be fine depending on ur firm. But if you finish the work in 50 hours, youre 125% utilized but you’re going over budget (providing you don’t eat hours). How do you reconcile the 2?
First year in a v10 corporate group. Wondering if billable hour “hoarding” is a thing? As in, my group is busy, there’s seemingly lots of work to go around, and I’ve only gotten positive feedback so far, but this month I’ve gotten relatively few assignments. Wondering if that could be related to seniors/mids wanting to hit billable targets for themselves?
What’s the difference between working in industry vs PA as an internal auditor? Does industry have billable hours?
Tech implementation folks, what is your utilization target (hrs/week)? How many hours do you actually work per week (incl. admin/non-billable work)?
In need of some billable work to do.
Billable time well spent.....
When we’re all comparing/complaining about hours at the end of the year are we including pro bono hours in that total? I’m nearing 2050 billables for the year but I have another 500 pro bono hours that should be added on. At the same time, I keep hearing about all these people straight billing 2,400+. Trying to determine if I should’ve tried to pick up more billable work to stay in the middle of the pack (i.e. not interested in partnership, just trying not to get canned).
How are y’all planning your consulting exit strategies? Do you have a specific role in mind to aim toward? Are you building specific skills outside of billable work?
Seeking input: I’ve received an offer to join a V50 at market (Class of ‘19, T30). Im currently a boutique where I’m being paid $160k. Despite being told my billables would be 120-150, I’m averaging 200 a month. Partner kind of leaves me to figure things out, and when I inevitably make mistakes, can be very demeaning. Is it a no-brainer to jump ship? Obviously I’ll be making more money for the same (if not less) billable hours. But what are some other considerations?
Would you rather: (1) stay in big law (V100), collect your checks, keep billing 1900+ annually, knowing you’ll likely only progress to non-equity partner but stable pipelines for work; or (2) transition to boutique firm with no billable requirements, no minimum salary, on a pure revenue split (half of collections), option for equity partner in 16 months?
In the event you don’t have enough billable hours/low on projects to fill your timesheet, you ________________

Have my closing interview with Accenture next week. So far the Director and MD I have met with have both liked me and the recruiter has said that they have both given me a thumbs up and that the upcoming closing interview with the MD is just a conversation. From my research I’ve also read that it’s just a sanity check to make sure I’m not a nutcase. Of course anything can happen, but I’m expecting an offer. (Cont)

Do engineers who switch to management start at M1 at FAANG+ companies regardless of engineering experience, or is it based on total experience? Do they only hire either internally engineers switching or only hire external people if they have management experience? What suggestions do you have for people looking to make the switch? I'm not sure how much longer I want to keep coding.
My roommates are really good friends of mine but not great roommates. They were asking what I thought about for our next apartment and are planning for it. I really don’t think I want to (cont)
