I have 180 students. If we go over 180, they will pay us an extra $5.00 per student per day. We negotiated this in our contract
That's a good deal for the district. Only 5 bucks a day? I guess once it's in there you can build it up.
Rising Star
We max at 23 for Gen. Ed. Inclusion, Sped, honors, and AP range between 6-15.
It's acceptable to have 26 in the district where I am. I know if you go over , you get a single one time stipend. However it has to be I believe 34 students before they pay you. It's not much, and the stress isn't worth the stipend. So if cap at 32, oh well.
Not okay!
I have 3 classes at 35 students. Last year I had 43 students in one class. We met in the auditorium.
What ever happened to the push to lower class sizes to ensure the individual needs of students are being met? Back in the Stone Age 🤣, we could handle 35 without assistance, but kids are a whole different breed now!
I have never worked in a school in Colorado with caps or with extra pay if you went over. The only time I have seen caps is in Behavior Modification programs or Alternative schools. At one time I was supposed to have no more than 20 ESS students, and I had 27. A few years back we had a couple of teachers who did not have enough desks to accommodate all of their students so they shuffled desks back and forth between classrooms so the students had some place to sit. Right now, in an online school, we have up to 60 per class, and at one time I had 600 total students.
I have had classes of 6 and classes of 43.
I'll take the 43 every time, but 25-30 is a good spot for my math classes with 11th and 12th grade students.
20-25 for 10th, 9th zero.
I had 40 desks, 2 standing desks, and a few loose chairs.
Good times
Most of our classes include 28-33 students.
165 (33 per period average) and it is $15 per day per extra student after the 15th day of instruction.
My district has a daily maximum of 222 at the junior high and 195 at the high school (one less period.) But not hard caps per period. They refuse to add them in because they need "flexibility", despite many surrounding districts have hard caps. I guess they are incompetent. So, we could have 20 in one class and 55 in another and it would be technically okay (they do try to balance.)
Terrible. I’m looking to transition out of the classroom…I’m done
#16yrs.
supposed to be capped at 32 I have 35, 33, and 32 so far they might add more
I’m an EA but it varies widely at the school I’m at. The most I’ve seen this year in SPED is 12 max. We should be getting another teacher or two to offset this as these kiddos are all in different programs. But I’m sitting in an APUSH class with a SPED student and that class is currently at 32. So I’m sure the gen ed classes are much bigger.
6 classes across 2 grades this year ranging 26-33 students, 170 total. Unfortunately most of my classes are on the lower end and I'll probably end up with quite a few more. My district caps at 35 students in one class
