Contribute to 401k up to employer's match
Max HSA
Max Roth IRA if under income limits
Max 401k
If your kids have earned income, match their income up to limit in Roth IRA under their name
For 529 plans, you can open and start funding before you even have kids. You can put yourself as beneficiary and transfer to your kid's name later. I did this and my 6 year olds account is over 20k.
If your employer offers stock purchase discount program, do it and treat it like a savings account yielding whatever the discount is.
We buy cars new but use them for a long time to make it worth it. I'm still driving a 2012 Toyota Highlander with 120k miles on it.

- Max out all the retirement accounts first (see the recommended priority list if you can’t do all of them
- Buy something decent and fun and drive it for 10 years
- Start early. Decide if you’re trying to pay for everything or just part. Aim for 80% of that in 529 and the rest in IRA or taxable brokerage to avoid overfunding the 529 and risking penalties

There is not “one ring that rules above everything” 🤣🤣. Everyone has a different life and different goal. If you are just beginning, look to some of your friends (who you know are successful and has the same lifestyle you are wanting to achieve). Treat them to coffee and have a conversation. I got a tip on estate planning lawyer from one of my daughter’s ice skating friend’s father. He is very successful so I just asked him for recommendations. The lawyer he recommended was so awesome (in estate planing) that I recommended her to my coworkers as well. And my coworker also agree that she is awesome.

Hi all. My 6mo rvw is approaching in <2mo. I am aware I will receive a performance-based raise, but not sure how much. My student loan payments kick back in shortly after and I could use some advice on how to ensure that raise accommodates as much of my new debt as possible. I have over 6 years of various office and FOH experience, but no degree. I often receive praise from coworkers and intend on revising my SOP to record every one of my tasks in my current position to cover my basis. Thoughts?

While de-escalating a situation or dealing with a child having an outburst I tend to notice outside coworkers coming in my room to offer help or just check in. I find this doesn’t help it actually makes the situation worse. Would it be rude of me to send out an email asking them not to interrupt since it can make the situation work. I know most of the time it’s cause they are being nosy.

Advice & resources? My spouse and I are starting to make good money (ages 28 & 31, $105k & $70k) with $10k in savings (we were hit hard financially this year) and 2 car payments.

We live in a cheap apartment ($1.3k) that is sh*tty. Don’t quite have a down payment (especially not in ATX). Is it dumb to rent a house for a year at $3k/month while we save up again?

We both didn’t come from $ and are figuring out how to not be idiots 🙃 tbh we would prefer to rent forever but that feels dumb???
