2000 for a bonus, but you could use 100 pro bono towards it. No marketing credit. Bonuses max out at 2400, and they discourage people from working that much.

1950, with excess hours counting toward bonuses. I try to bill 45 hours a week

like

1900

1950 on paper, 2000 in reality.

Written, there is no standard requirement but you get guaranteed a bonus at 2000. Bonus is discretionary otherwise. If you want to make partner, you should hit 2000 or more the three years or so before you get put up. That last part is unwritten.

2000

1950

I have a collections goal of $290,000. I bill at $200. Works out to about 1500 after cuts.

Zero. We work on contingency.

1900 (100 pro bono counts towards). No marketing credit.

1900

2100 but 2200+ in reality

Good call!

None but if there were one you’d hit it....

2050. Feel like I need to move after reading some of the responses above.

No billable requirement but if you hit 600 per quarter you get a bonus for the quarter. So target is 2,400?

2000

1950. Then 2300 for full bonus.

Does anyone else find it ridiculous that firms require a minimum daily time entry? For example, my firm requires us to bill 6 hours a day, whether or not it’s billable work, we have to have a minimum of 6.0 in our time entry system every day or we get flagged. If we’re on vacation we have to pre-bill 6.0 a day. Why the hell do firms do this???

Other than higher pay (I didn’t become a lawyer to get rich 🤣) what is the benefit of working for BigLaw, or private practice in general? As a government lawyer, I make 6 figures, have excellent benefits, no billable hours requirements, more time off than I know what to do with (including mental health days), a pension, a 401(K), option to chose whether to WFH or not, no weekend work, no working before 8am or after 5pm. It seems like so many lawyers in private practice are unhappy.

Opinions? Management now requiring everyone to have 45 billable hrs per week, not including mandatory concepting n pitch work. Most people participating in 2-3 initiatives at same time. Is this normal

Just got into a full time grad program for international affairs that starts in January of 2021. (completely changing careers). I need to stay working at my firm until then and possible after to get the billable hours for my CPA. I passed all 4 exams and I refuse to give let that go to waste...... how do I tell my employer I'll be going to school in a way that they'll still let me work part time? Extremely nervous they're just going to let me go.

Received a job offer. Was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on a concern I had about it. It's an entry level position, and I don't have much experience. The billables are 2040 a year. For billable hours in civil litigation and insurance defense, is 2040 hours for a 1st year associate on the high end in this field for a small or midsize firm? It seems like most attorneys I know have minimum requirements of around 1800. The compensation is around 80k a year.

There is almost nowhere to find reliable bonus information on Canadian firms. I’ve heard of year end bonuses ranging from 10-50% this year (not including Covid bonuses). Let’s start a thread posting year of call, rough billable hours worked and bonus as a percent of salary.

5 year call. 1850 hours. 10%.

Have any of you taken "low bono" clients while working at a firm? I want to take on a low bono client or two but not sure who would get the money. This is a contract opportunity through a non profit so I'm assuming a 1099 will be issued. The per hour rate is significantly less than my billable rate. I would (obviously) like the money but my real objective is just getting experience/networking since I recently moved to a new state and don't have clients of my own.

Does anyone have experience working for a ALSP? How does compensation work (pay and benefits)? Are you an employee or technically an IC? Do you have billable requirements like at a firm? Is it reasonable to be expected to spend 20-30 non-billable hours a month checking your paralegal’s work? (i.e. summarizing hundreds of records and bills). The partner said he “didn’t use paralegals” at his previous firm and eating the time is an “investment in yourself.” Is this common?
