Probably not going to be layoffs but could be a slowdown or freeze in hiring. If you’re worried and want to make a safe bet, tax areas with compliance remain strong through recessions.

like

K2, that was voluntary. The staff had to express an interest in doing that. There has been no required loan out of M&A tax staff to compliance.

I was also worried about this and told I would be helping out with compliance work this season.

like

TM1, what firm are you at?

What is the comp like at A&M?

like

EY1, regarding bases: 130k for S, 150k for M

A&M don’t have COL adjustments so those should be pretty much what you’ll be getting anywhere in the country

The bonus is based on collections. I’d ballpark it at 50-150k

like

Come over to A&M, we have more comp and if a recession hits and deals slow down, we’ll start you on restructuring work :)

That’s great to know. Thank you for the insight!

So someone I know asked HR about a boot policy. When he found out that there wasn’t one, but his boss said there was (who gave the guys $ for boots and the claimed it on his expense reimbursements as something else) the boss got mad at him for askingHR (and in trouble for the expense reimbursements) and then 2 days later laid off my friend. There appears to be no notice of bad performance and this person always was the first person on the job site ready to work. Thoughts?

I have an offer and want to negotiate

1. London base salary but I have to absorb all the expenses (train + stay)
I am thinking to negotiate to

2. home base salary and have my expenses paid for

I know that's depends on the amount I have to travel (and potentially stay) but at the moment this is unknown. Past 8 months was just twice a month + 2 nights stay.

The only thing I know is it won't be every week, the return trian ticket is about £80-100, depends I could plan ahead.

Has anyone tried to get an extension on an offer and they push back?

But their performance has been avg and not seemingly worthy of another large raise within a short period of time. But how do I respond when they talk about personal finances?
