When people only bring me the problem without having even thought about potential solutions or even ideas.

like

Agreed!

like

Lack of an ownership mentality. I like resourceful problem solvers, but I deeply value people that think beyond the problem and the impacts and reactions and solve for that and I tolerate taskers.
When the third category does what's a basic expectation of their job but expect to be valued as the second category is where I lose patience.

Depends on you also. If you don’t empower your team you’ll have a bunch of disconnected resources.

My biggest thing? They don’t recognize how much I do to protect them. I eat a ton of shit from the partner team, the clients, inner bd efforts blah blah blah. I do extra travel so they can work from home, I stay up late to take work off their plates so they can log off at reasonable times. I’ve worked weekends and holidays so they didn’t have to.

Never for any of the above an acknowledgment or thank you. On a burner and they reported me to the partner and my performance manager (this team works 9-7). I’m sorry that this is your first consulting gig and you’ve decided I’m the problem- but newsflash- shit rolls down hill, and you’re not catching much of it.

Of anyone else, I’m actually the only one looking out for them. Honestly, I want them to realize I’m doing as much as I can, that I’m also under a tremendous amount of pressure. I’m all for having a dialog with the partner team- but why not together as a team?

Leaders like what you’ve described are the best to work for and most rare.

I think the challenge is I’ve worked with and for plenty of (if not most) leaders who don’t protect at all, and I think many juniors assume that of all leaders.

Colleagues who say they have people working “under them”

What about minions?

Not taking initiative to see if they can find the answer on their own before asking me, when it's right there in front of them. I don't mind helping out to find a solution, but pick the low hanging fruit people - it makes it seem like you don't have critical thinking skills.

MD1 amen!

These people that keep asking for raises and work life balance. How am I supposed to buy my next property if they keep draining my funds? What else would they be doing on weekends when not working?

These millennials! Sigh.

Gen Z, you mean. Millenials are the PPMDs.

My biggest pet peeve is folks who are not self-reflective and do not pick up on constructive criticism and blame everyone else for their mistakes rather by pointing fingers than work in a collaborative manner.

Not using outlook calendar function and sending emails to get “some times” to connect.

I would prefer you look at my calendar send me an invite and if I do not like that time I will counter based on your calendar and my preference no additional emails needed

The person I manage keeps calling me “boss”. I think they’re trying to emulate how I behave with my manager, but my manager is also my friend and I use the term “boss” with my manager in jest. Whereas when the person I manage uses it, it feels weirdly like simpering because our relationship is just not the same. I don’t know how to bring it up though, so I just keep mum

Damn, I call my manager boss 🧐 and I started doing it after I saw them call their manager boss 🤔 are you who I think you are? 👀

Chasing ppl down for an update on project

like

Thanks for the response. I thought you meant you didn't like it when junior employees chased you or others down for updates. Now, my understanding is that you don't like having to chase down junior employees who should give you an update.

Need somewhere to just rant. My grandparents got hit today with a targeted attack and took 20k from them, in person. Had to look them in the eye and take their money. What kind of evil are you to do that with no remorse? Also, super disappointed that my grandparents didn't ask anyone for help before that as we have warned them about scammers. Poor grandmother is so embarrassed. Scam in comments.

Trying to get more information from People working in BIG4 and Banking industry. I'm having 2 offers ( EY & Barclays )

I want to understand from growth perspective, I have 6Y of Exp. Worked with Genpact and MetLife. I know that WLB is great in captive units. But for now my goal is to invest more into learning. So WLB is not a big concern for me, I want to understand how are the opportunities after working in BIG4 vs Barclays

Hi fishes

Does fidelity revise offer letter without the counter offer or does they take the offer back?

Fellow fishes suggest some good resources for case prep. Dont mind paying too.
I had a first round at bcg which i am sure didnt go well due to my lack of case prep.
Last i prepped and cleared case interviews was when i was interviewing for my current company. Although i have done it multiple times but case interviews are still my achilles heel. Any suggestions to improve is welcome

Wardrobe Advise Needed!

I’m new to the consulting world coming from tech as direct admit PPMD. Female, mostly work from home, although I plan to go into the office 1-2x per week plus coffee/drink networking with colleagues and clients. Tech is casual and I typically wear jeans with a nice top, sometimes blazer, and boots/heels. Based on what I’ve seen in Fishbowl (taking this all with a grain of salt) I may need to step it up. Thoughts? Recommendations?

Partners, what qualities, personal traits you look for in new SM or experienced SM. what matters to you most. Is it more revenue generation or successful deliveries. Is it more focus on people development or building the practice. I got some inputs from my firm's partners but looking for wider and collective view across consulting business. As is case for every question answer may involve "it depends" but trying to understand what common skills that are portable across firms.
