What are your plans for taking care of your parents ,if they are not in the US? My parents are doing great, but there will be time when they will need my help (not just financially)

Do you foresee getting them up here ? Or spend more time in the subcontinent when we get to that point ? Just curious to hear from our community. Bane of being an immigrant!

Best option is to move back to India now. However if you cannot do that then try the following: Hire help for them back in India. If possible, move them closer to their own relatives (if they want that). Ensure they end up with a healthy social life (lots of seniors in India end up meeting each other everyday, kitty parties etc). If you end up staying in the US, make sure you visit as frequently as possible (like 1-2 times a year). Make sure your spouse is on the same page as you with regards to you taking care of your parents

I am considering getting them a GC and bringing them here, building an extension on my home to get them more room

The pandemic is tipping the scales in favor of them feeling like they'd prefer having the security of living here and theres other emotional pluses that work for our situation

I was only offering my opinion on the original question. If you like being enslaved by visa, great. It doesn’t work for me and my spouse who is on H4. Also I plan to have my own business rather than doing job. So I am planning to do what works for me as my situation and life goals are not a 1:1 match of y’all. Also one of my parent is partial bed ridden and other also wants to live with us rather than being on their own. But if your parents like being left alone as they age and become weak then that is fine as long as that is what works for you.

GTA has one of the costliest housing market, wonder how it is still growing and who is buying those houses with low CN salaries.

What kind of help would you hire for the parents? Round the clock maid, chauffeur etc.?

Be a bit careful with the help though. My parents have a maid for cleaning etc and another one for food. For driving etc, they know how to do Uber and Ola. For bank, HDFC bank has a great option where if become their preferred customer, then they provide you a dedicated relationship manager who comes home and helps with bank related stuff.

Has anyone here committed to a partner who has significant debt? My partner of over a year has >$300K in debt from med school. Random thought... My gay male context plus the pandemic has amplified the "this isn't worth it" view of my unbalanced work life balance. I am never going to have kids and don't need to keep grinding for the next promotion etc. like my head of household peers with children. Do you feel the non-traditional household / income demands that LGBTQIA+ we live with are making you more easily say "enough is enough" with work as the valuation of our time has increased during the pandemic? 🤔

Seriously wanna divorce my wife who’s not necessarily a bad person but I feel angry about her all the time. I always have to fight with her over the small things. I feel she’s playing a power game and trying to take control whenever she gets the chance.

The only moment she steps back and be the person I want is when I get really angry and she can sense it. Why do I have to do this every time to get peace?

No kids, but even I am not afraid to divorce, I don’t feel it’s worth it!

What is the best time to submit B1/B2 visa extension application (preferably, by mail, given a significant difference in fee between online and mail)? While the window opens at 45 days prior to expiration, my parents are willing to leave as soon as India opens International flights from the US. We have about 30 days pending, wondering if we should file now or wait for a couple of weeks? Heard USCIS gives a 30 day grace on receipt, not sure if it’s true. Anyone been through this recently?

Not a consulting question: I screwed up big time in my relationship 2 years ago. I split with someone because I did not have the conviction to be vulnerable and fight for her with my parents. Truth is I gave up too soon and really broke her heart. She’s been through hell and back since, had to see a therapist. It’s been 2 years now. She’s still single but she’s practically over me. I now know I could have done a 99 things differently. I think about reconciliation a 1000 times a day. What do I do?
