I was contacted by an Amazon recruiter for a remote Sr. Program Manager role. I took and passed the assessment and was moved to the hiring manager round which was scheduled for tomorrow. I got an email tonight saying that the Director of the group decided that the person must be in Seattle. I am in Austin, which is not an option. I’m disappointed! The recruiter will let me know if any remote roles come up but in the mean time, does anyone have any remote Amazon roles that they’d refer me to?

It depends on the roles. We have family in our Mfg and Distribution facilities reporting to different shift supervisors/manager at corporate they can’t be in the same department.
Direct reporting relationships are the most concerning. Same department is probably not the best idea. They’ll tell you all day they work great together and around each other. And, it’s all good until it’s not. The other thing to be on the look out for is if there is an FML case or a death, you potentially have 2 gone instead of just one. Time off for vacation or kid’s events will hit the department twice as hard.
At a previous employer, we had a supervisor that had his wife in an area lead position and her son worked in the production shop. We were family owned and operated and it’s hard to have a nepotism policy when the owner’s family is heavily involved in the business. We got purchased by a larger public ally traded company and as we were cleaning up and restructuring, the supervisor went all the way to the CHRO and CEO asking to keep his wife in her lead spot under him and that the whole situation should be “grandfathered...” you just can’t make it up.
