PwC is awesome when it comes to flexibility. Definitely recommend coming over if you’re interested. Happy to offer referrals 😊
I’m dallas and definitely people in my group work from home. We have a lot of flexibility even for first years. You can wfh some days but definitely can relocate and some people relocate every day after dinner during busy season. A lot of people also wfh in the weekend
EY is extremely inconsistent across office and even sub divisions. there is one section of the tax team that never get to work from home while there is another where they can do what they want. the team that doesn't get the flexibility has the highest turnover
i would leave the firm if i couldn't WFH pulling 70 chargable a week
I fought tooth and nail to work from home lol. Doesn't help that most people live close to the office, while I'm a good 1.5 hr drive away
In my ITAX team at RSM — nobody cares, especially me. Work from Maldives for all I care — just get the work done well and attend client calls as needed.
at KMPG, my group is super flexible...but moreso manager and up...with the logic that typically associate level need guidance which comes easier from live one on one assistance...
At KPMG, terrible. They make you fight for it. It is a little heartless in how bad it really is, because even if it need based to make life more manageable, it is still highly frowned upon. If you do get it there are policies in place to shame you for using it. For instance, you are to notify all your teams and coaches including lead partners on an email at the start of each day you’re home. This would be fine if it weren’t for the stigma. So a lot of people stop doing that, or work from home and hide it from management. I see it all the time.
@KPMG 2, are you saying you have to notify everyone mentioned because you were reprimanded for it or because the employee handbook says so? Actual culture is usually more relaxed than the written standard is the only reason I ask. I work from where I need to when I need to if it’s reasonable to. With each new group of staff, there’s more of an expectation of complete autonomy which is fine. That’s needed so it should be encouraged. My only complaint is that new seniors don’t seem to own the role of teaching and learning to take time to help your staff even though you’re stressed. I’m sure that’s not a new issue but being remote doesn’t give the senior the same learning experience or the staff that should be replacing them so they can move up.
Deloitte is flexible when it comes to WFH but people abuse it. First year staff sometimes work from home 3 days a week and take 30 minutes to respond on Skype.
To be fair Skype can be laggy and show you messages that came in minutes ago. But if it’s obvious then take away the privilege.
My team does WFH Friday’s and it’s pretty much guaranteed for other days if you have an appointment or something. 💜 my team.
locally speaking, as long as you are responsible and a good performer with no client commitments that day, do what ya gotta do
I wish! It’s highly frowned upon in my group.
At EY, my team is EXTREMELY flexible when it comes to working remotely (I can’t say for other teams, b/c I don’t know their situations). With that being said, our managers and SM’s put a lot of trust in us to get the job done in a timely manner, which we do. I’d like to say that it’s b/c we know they give us that trust, it makes us work harder. But, I understand that’s not always the case when you have a larger population sample & it’s a hard decision to bet on.
When I was at KPMG it was highly frowned upon and would be used against you at year end review and comp discussion.
same for our office, pcs is pretty strict, while indirect is pretty relaxed, at least once you have proved yourself. I think a major issue is someone new or not much experience always wanting to work from home.
Not a B4 but I'm in PCS and half my group works from home all the damn time it's great. Truly no one cares, partners encourage it if it keeps you more productive. One of the only things I'll give this place credit for 👍🏻
Which firm? Looking to jump.
I can work from home whenever I'm not at a client
