My opinion is this, I don’t necessarily think teachers are underpaid if they were paid to teach as they did in the 60’s, 70, 80’s and 90’s. The problem now is teachers aren’t teachers anymore. They are teachers, social workers, and overall de-facto parents to so many kids.
If Teacher’s were allowed to teach and not worry about the pressure of student’s abilities to take a test that really has no impact on them and shrinking budgets that are requiring teachers to spend their own money on their students as if they were their own, I think things would be different.
If we got back to teachers providing academic information and students being responsible for their own education as we all were, and parents being held responsible for their own children’s behavior and schooling, things would. E vastly improved and things would change

What's a rule you are expected to enforce that you strongly disagree with or are indifferent to. Do you enforce it or take the risk? I move around as a tutor and am currently working with a school that has a ridiculously strict formal address policy. One of my second graders refers to me as "Miss Tutoring (my first name)" - it's about the cutest thing ever and doesn't bother me one bit. We are moderated sometimes and I'm more worried about her getting in trouble than me for not abiding.

I just recently resigned my teaching position for a position in another state to be closer to family. I will be making a lot less money (about 1/2 as much). Am I crazy to give up a high paying teaching position that took me 12 years to get to on the pay scale or is being closer to my family worth the pay cut? Anybody ever found themselves in a similar situation? I gave up tenure too. Honestly, I wasn’t happy living in my home town making the most money I've made. I guess it’s a leap of faith!
