What are your thoughts on personalized resume writing services? I’m considering hiring one of these to stand out in the search of a new job.
My resume looks good (1 page, bullet points on achievements, direct language, etc), but I feel I’m not getting as many interviews as my experience would enable.

So worth it. My resume, cover letter and Linked-In profile were good to start, but the outside help saved me a lot of time and gave my documents more of a marketing feel. Best $500 investment I ever made. Turn around and got a $40K salary increase with the job offer.

I used TopResume. My initial reaction to the service was a little shocking. The first draft had typos and wasn’t entirely the direction I wanted it to go, but then I realized the service was an expediter not completely hands off. After speaking to a coworker who did the same thing with a different service, I believed they must all require a little guidance. I ultimately ended up using the final version as inspiration and a template for modifying to different postings.

I personally don’t believe in outsourcing this part of the job search process.

I wrote my own and got great feedback from multiple HC interviewers. I visited their career sites on resume writing tips and created mine. No more than 1 page for every 10 years experience. Use STAR statements for accomplishments. The process helped me create a work portfolio that ultimately prepared me for the interviews.

Has been an amazing investment for me. There's a lot of trickery to optimize for the ATS bots that scan your resume which a pro resume writer understands.

While I can sell the hell out of someone else or their product, selling myself ties me in knots. Having someone construct the narrative and format from a lengthy intake form was still hard, but much less frustrating than doing it myself.

Hi - I’m a PM at a reasonably well known company. I don’t have an MBA and see lots of folks asking about needing that to get an interview at FB, G or A. I can confirm that an MBA isn’t a hard req as I’ve had recruiters reach out and offers to move forward to interviews before. I’ve never decided to actually move forward though as I don’t see the appeal. I really want to know, what’s the thing that excites you all about working at a massive FAANG type company?

Can anyone tell me how much time it usually takes for next step and all.

What’s everyone’s thoughts on applying to several different positions within the same company? I’m looking at about 4 each with different focuses but mainly revolving around data analytics or entry level project analyst/coordinator. A friend of mine said it’s not a good look as it shows the company that you’re desperate. I really disagree, I feel it’s in your best interest to apply as many as you feel qualified for. Any thoughts?

Unethical, unhealthy. I’m looking to apply to other places. Do I put this company on my resume to show I’ve been working since I graduated or is it worse to show I want to leave after only 4 months? Also, absolutely cannot have them contact my current job or use them as a reference. Put them or no?

People are not just candidates you put in your back pocket for a rainy day as much as agency’s may think they’re doing a justice by adding you to the “pipeline”. I've applied and networked for my dream job and didn't get an interview this time. Also dissatisfied with compensation and some of the responsibilities at my current job but have a lot of opportunity to learn. So the question is do I stay where I'm not thrilled to be now because it's good experience to set me up for the dream job next time there's an opening, or do I leave now to an option that's better pay and more interesting but farther off the path towards my long term goal?

Out of curiosity, how bad is it to apply to the same job twice and let’s say within two weeks. I guess like let’s say I have a more updated resume two weeks later and want the employer to see my most updated one instead? Also, I have had many jobs before and should I take out the ones that are irrelevant? At the same time, I don’t want the employer to think I have a gap year or something.

Been since May 23rd that I’ve completed my background check. Called the 3rd party company and they said the background check has been sent to the hiring company for review as of last Friday. Should I wait another day before following up with my recruiter about the status of the background check? I don’t suspect there to be any crazy thing, but I’m just anxious. I’ve just never had a background check take at or over a week. Advice?
