What are your thoughts on switching into a recruiting role? I’ve been told I would be good in sales/recruiting but I always ignored it as a real option and told myself I’d be “wasting my degree” or that “I’m too smart for this”. Could be imposter syndrome talking, but I wanted to get others’ thoughts on making the switch to this industry. I’m currently in talks with Robert Half Financial Services and they seem very interested in bringing me on board if I choose to do so.

Dead end career. If you are good at sales there are much more lucrative and interesting positions available.

No, just go to sales directly

Can’t imagine the pay would be comparable

You're only making 70 now as an associate, but after a promo or two, you could be making much more, or be better positioned for an exit to a competitor or industry firm who will pay more.

No to recruiting. Money is in sales. Recruiting won’t lead to sales, unless you’re a independent head hunter.

A former Manager reached out about an e-commerce manager role for a relatively young company doing $35M/year. The role manages inventory on the site (20 skus), CRO, and Analytics plus the e-tailers (Amazon). They launched a site redesign and CVR tanked, but from what I gather they have too much of a focus on Paid Social and upper-funnel tactics. They’re hiring for a Demand Gen Analyst/Manager from a different manager. So, the roles report into different people. Question below:

Do I stand a chance in consulting? Background: bachelors (GPA 3.5) and masters (GPA 3.8) in accounting, 1.5 years of experience in tax at PwC as associate. Currently on H1B visa. I don’t have any consulting experience, maybe just a few cases at school. I don’t consider myself aggressive, I’m more of a laid-back person. Im hard working and don’t mind working high hours. The reason I want to make the switch is 1) I think consulting work is generally more interesting; 2) more exit opportunitie

I was an MBA intern and FT hire at Deloitte. Been here 3 years, been at M for the last year. I have seen others leave at this point in their careers and go direct to SM/director roles in industry, but as I start applying for jobs and have convos with recruiters, I have had more than one say that I’m light on YOE and that for that reason alone I am either not considered for a SM role or unlikely to have my salary expectations met. How can I combat/preempt this? Others clearly have.
