What are your thoughts on working within the Finance Transformation space? I currently work in advisory and spent one year prior in auditing. It seems really cool, but I want to know if this would benefit me in the long run in my career.

If you like driving change in the CFOs office (people, tech, process), it’s great.

If you like business as usual type work that falls under the CFO teams responsibilities, look elsewhere.

I’m seeing folks get golden handcuffs. It’s hard to transition out because you’d take a pay cut to go to industry OR you’d transition to a director role. Not much in between. (And then option 3 is make partner)

I’m working on a finance transformation project rn and let’s just say it’s not as cool as it sounds… I also wanted to try it but after this I think I’m gonna go back to something less data/erp system focused

I don't see why not really. I mean it's a growing space that's definitely needed...I think it could be a really cool opportunity if you found the right role!

Companies will hire individuals with the necessary abilities on a contract basis or with the understanding that the role will be temporary until the finance transformation is complete if they anticipate that it will take between 18 months and three years.

Finance leaders are attempting to appoint people who are coming in to address a specific issue, but who they also feel could do more in the wake of the projected expansion of the business following resolution of this issue.

Finance transformation practices vary for each organization since we’re in different phases in our growth. There are few ways you can get the overhaul of the finance function started like setting your goal, have a holistic view of the business and the processes, aligning business and finance process and gauge your progress.

How bad does it look to future employers for an experienced attorney (15+ years) who is pivoting into a different practice area and looking to lateral after only having been at their current/first job for 4-5 months in the new practice area? I've been told by a recruiter that it's not a deal breaker because of my experience level. But many colleagues have suggested I remain where I'm at (miserable and unappreciated - just took a $20k pay cut) for at least a year.

Any motorsports photographers out there?

I would love some advice to get a little more serious with this hobby of mine. I have gone to a handful of events, both local tracks and professional circuits as a spectator, but wish to know what the best approach is to gain media credentials to take this passion of mine to the next next step.

Any advice is welcome, I would very much love to fuel this passion of mine with the hopes of eventually making motorsports photography a career path.

As a side-hustle for the past 18 months I was the Communications Director of a campaign for Congress. We had our primary last night and it didn't go as we hoped. At 24 years old, it was a great early experience, I learned a lot, and we have a lot to be proud of, but I'm still reflecting on why we fell short, and deciding how I want to move forward.

Yesterday my boss scheduled a meeting with me for something he needed help with. He was 15min late & took a phone call from his boss during…10min. This has become a habit. At one point I even stoped scheduling our 1:1’s because he misses them so often but he realized a couple months later & told me to start scheduling them again. I told him they aren’t necessary but he insisted. What do I do? It makes me feel less important/unappreciated. I rather not even schedule to meet. Advice?

I can't help but notice that the most touted exit opps mentioned here are all 'G&A' positions - S&O, CorpDev, Strat, etc. Aren't these positions the first in line to go come layoff time? Prod Management seems like it would be more insulated from layoff pressure (so long as your P&L is in the black) though even that could come under budgetary pressure.

What would be an example of 'layoff-proof' exit opp?
