Did you mean health tech as in biotech?
If that’s the case, quite a few, actually and depends which state you live in. I live in Massachusetts and there are biotech companies everywhere, but the biggest in terms of my experience and the experience of coworkers (ex and current) are Pfizer, Moderna, Resilience, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Sanofi, TScan Therapeutics, and Bristol Myers Squibb to name a few (in no particular order). I will elaborate a bit of some I know but you can always do a quick search on companies online…

- TFS makes their own equipment so you get to get trained on their use before other biotech companies and hospitals start using them. A lot of people who have worked under the consent decree at Sanofi joined TFS, therefore their training is more robust and compliant with FDA guidelines.

- Pfizer has a lot of products and is a more advanced company because they’ve been in the game for a while. They use a lot of TFS machines but their leaders have industry and academic experience. Some of their workers teach at MIT, Harvard, and WPI.

- Moderna is the leader in mRNA science and they have cool projects. If you’re interested in working for a company that has advanced technology and innovative ideas, this is the one. Unlike Pfizer which is more like a brick and mortar company with wise industry leaders, Moderna has a bunch of young professionals (mid 20’s - early 40’s) who bring their knowledge of biotech and mRNA therapy/science from academic research and neo-therapies.

- Sanofi can be a stressful environment to work at because of the consent decree they had in the early 2010’s. They had a lot of impromptu visits from fda inspectors and as a result did a lot of in-house audits/inspections to always be compliant. If you enjoy a very disciplined environment (similar to catholic schools), you’ll enjoy working there. Despite the over-the-top discipline, Sanofi workers enjoy long vacation days since it’s a French company and French people enjoy long vacations (it’s embedded in their DNA).

- TScan Therapeutics (a very young company) was founded by two Harvard Students. Similar to Moderna, they have new technologies and Neo-immunotherapies. Their target is to treat solid and liquid tumors (cancers) by re-engineering a donor’s T-cells then transfusing them back into the donor and see all tumors being engulfed. Unlike Chimeric Antigen Receptor T-cell therapy that can have side effects, TScan’s cancer detection and treatment doesn’t have side effects. You just have to be on the treatment regularly to avoid any cancer evasion.

Hope that helps!

Thank you, DCS1. All great stuff! I’m an oncology researcher and remember studying about Sanofi in grad school. You brought it all back to memory. 😊

I’m not familiar with TScan and will check them out. A colleague of mine ran one of the first CAR-T trials, and it was intense. I’m keen to learn about an alternative that has fewer SEs.

When I referenced healthtech, I was thinking about companies like Color Health, Advata, Kogniz, Koios , and others. Companies design and develop a technology to address a specific need/use case in healthcare which often involves data aggregation and analytics.

In terms of opportunity for career growth or the company’s growth prospects, there are a bunch that come to mind. But in terms of company culture and being a great place to work, I know from personal experience that Lumeon is really great. They’re UK based w/ a growing presence in the US. They work in hospital/health system automation and IT. So a true “health tech” in that sense. What kind of role do you have in mind?

Hi guys, I am due to start working at EY soon within audit.

I will be commuting to the office by train when in the Birmingham office. This will be from Leicester.

Usually if a commute is about 1.5 hours+, Mazars authorises hotels. Is there a similar policy at EY?

When not in the office I would prefer to drive to clients, not sure if me being in Leicester affects whether they will tell me to suck up an extended commute? Would a mileage claim be from the office to the client?

Thanks!

Hi, I’m new here! I am starting a business as a parenting coach. It has been suggested to me to reach out to big companies to see if they offer internal employee benefits or learning and development training. The idea being they have a bigger budget than a single family. I have been a stay at home mom for 15 years and I’m out of the business loop. How do I find the right person in the “big company” to email/cold call? Just tying cold call makes me nauseous.🙃
