Car shopping advice needed. Getting a 2021 bmw 330e for lease with a monthly payment of 535 including taxes after 2.5k down (total price coming up to almost 42). The other option is a 2022 Subaru Outback premium which we are getting a really good deal for 32k out of the door. Normally from a price perspective the Subaru makes sense. But when I look at monthly payments it’s almost the same for both. And the bmw is hybrid. So wondering which is a better deal at this point

Finishing up my first year of big law, thinking of starting my own practice while I work at my current position. Thinking that in a few months, I’ll concretely work solely for my own practice full-time. How difficult is it to gain clients (mainly PI and civil lit)? My mentor also offered me to be an off counsel while I’m working at my current job so that I can refer cases for a cut, would there be an ethical issue? FYI my firm does unrelated law to PI and doesn’t forbid doing extra work.

What’s one free/cheap tool or resource that changed your law practice?

Is there a good reliable source for demand letter templates? I transitioned into my own practice from big law transactional work and don't have a nice repository of demand letters. Much of my solo work is dispute resolution which necessarily means I need to bulk up on my resources.

I left my old firm and started my own firm in September. I have already started to get client referrals and so far I am working from my home only - because it’s COVID time and people know Zoom now. I do estate planning and elder law, which lends itself to meeting clients at their locations when needed. I had a client drop off documents I need to review at my house this week and this was fine with the client. Do any attorneys here open their own home to clients ever for meetings?

3 attorney firm. I’ve been here for 6 years and have used Westlaw exclusively. Now we are switching to Lexis because apparently Westlaw is too expensive. I hate change. I know where everything is on Westlaw and now I need to relearn. Apparently Westlaw will not budge on price and would rather just see a client leave than work with them. Super annoying. Any insight on negotiating Westlaw or transitioning to lexis?

I believe improving one’s sales conversion rate is something everyone want to improve but no one wants to admit they would like to work it. Funny how lawyers will spend thousands on seminars to improve trial skills. But this topic is not discussed in our profession. I have read books in sales. But am unable to find any for lawyers. I want convert every lead I can. Does anyone have tips, books, cle’s or studied this topic?

Super niche fields—- I’m a solo and I’m always interested in researching super niche fields to add to my offerings, which is currently mostly a transactional business practice. Crowdsourcing-which networking groups would you recommend that actually led to biz. The problem with most for an atty is you can’t recommend to clients a prof just b/c they are in your networking group.

If you refer a client to the firm you work at is it customary for you to do the work for the client?
I am a new attorney at a small ID firm but one one of the partners does business law as well. I referred a potential client for business services but I haven’t not done any business work yet. Should I expect to get in on the work if they sign on or will I stay with what they have me doing with insurance?
