3 primary options usually. Keep it with old employer (no more contributions obviously but continues to be invested), roll it over to new employer 401k plan, convert it to a traditional IRA

Of those, I recommend first two options since converting it to a tIRA complicates backdoor Roth option in the future. Rolling it to new employer is best IMO since everything is nicely consolidated and easier to manage.

To my Deloitte colleagues: I just returned from maternity leave, and while I’m very grateful I was able to stay home with baby for 6 months I’m really anxious about returning and my utilization (50% now). Our RM is really slow and says we have a lot of new projects but hasn’t assigned me to one. I am doing trainings but not billing, and I don’t believe I’ll be staffed next week or the next either. Have reached out to a partner for extra work but haven’t heard back. Afraid I’ll get fired.

Niche question for my healthcare folks - do you see any HIPAA or other liability issues for a hospital who discusses and discloses an employed physician’s PHI, but only under the umbrella of confidential peer review? And in furtherance of quality of care? Think peer review committee/MEC discussing whether an aging doc is mentally fit to practice. Off the top of my head I tend to think this is ok but would appreciate any input from those with a healthcare background.

Seeing how 401k’s, ira’s etc..are mostly based in stocks. What happens if we have another Great Depression and the stock market crash’s. Even if you have Real estate investments, if ppl can’t pay rent like with Corona, that’s not really helpful. So what are other ways in addition to those mentioned is there to help secure you into old age?

Has anyone been able to semi-retire around age 50 and then work part time or hourly consulting until 60? I want to retire at 55 but I could do an extra 5 years if I were only doing 3 days/week

Has anyone left healthcare and is now really happy? I’m an MSN, RN with 12 years hospital experience. I’m burned out and tired of making crap pay. I have an opportunity outside of healthcare that would pay more and challenge me in new ways that I haven’t experienced before. It’s a total shift that would really heal my work-life balance, job satisfaction and budget. My only fear is that I would not be using the license and degree that I worked so hard for. I would appreciate any input!!!!

For people who live and plan to buy a home in HCOL cities, what’s your savings strategy for a down payment?

Currently 26, make $120K and put about 10% post tax into a Roth 401k and then anywhere from 20-40% into VOO. Goal is to be able to afford a down payment for a $1.5M home in 5-7 years.

Sometimes I get a bit concerned I’m not putting enough towards retirement, but with how expensive homes, can’t really budget any more towards it.

Hi! I currently work as a senior consultant but my client (a major bank) has made it clear they would be interested in hiring me full time into a product role (VP). If I want to eventually exit to a major tech company or small start up more aligned to my values (interested in health tech) but stay as a PM — is it better to exit now into this role or stay as a consultant? Anyone have any thoughts/ advice? I feel some pressure to apply, but not certain which role would be best for my career.

She broke up with her ex 8 months ago. I still keep no contact with her, but I wonder whether this has to do due to her break up as the relationship, which lasted three years
