Not much legroom for negotiations at the associate level. Best case is guaranteed top bucket bonus and come in at the same level associate. I’ve seen people lose a year when making a lateral move.
It’s only attractive if you’re moving to a better platform/more deal flow or somewhere that has better long term options for your situation.
Yeah, you should be able to get guaranteed VP promote. Sign on bonus might be tough but no harm in asking
Lateral moves are generally about taking a near-term L for hopefully a long-term W.
Early VP promote will likely not happen. Guaranteed bonus and make whole on your existing deferred comp. If the firm you are switching to is public then expect that make whole on the deferred comps to be in shares and likely with the same vesting period you currently have
So what makes the lateral move so attractive? Financially it doesn’t seem compelling at all, based on what you’re saying. What’s a best case, aggressive negotiating outcome for an offer package?
I see. That’s helpful. What about a guaranteed VP promote at Year-end or some kind of sign on bonus? I’m pretty much guaranteed a VP promote at my current bank.
