What certs have you found useful or want to attain regarding product management?

Conversely, what PM-related certifications do you think are bogus or fluff?

I think all product certifications are less useful than six months actually working on a product.*

When I say “working on a product”, I don’t meant “I implemented SaaS for a client and that made me the product owner/manager”. The PMs for SFDC/Servicenow/whatever work for those companies directly.

This question comes up a lot, as the appeal is understandable--some kind of product certification feels like a small investment in one's product career to hopefully get a leg up on others, and offers a hopefully a clear ROI for only the cost of time and money. A guaranteed shortcut into product!

So while that is appealing, the consensus I've seen from senior product folks is that certifications are not highly valued. There are no guaranteed shortcuts.

Just write your own app and work on it :)

I feel like I’ve been tricked. I’m seeing more and more recruiters on LinkedIn denounce this beat ATS and that a human actually views all applicants. If that’s true is there a point to getting a referral or even reaching out to a recruiter???

Anyone going to hijinx festival?

I'm a noob with bonds, can someone break down ibonds for me in idiot proof language?

Per what I'm reading the interest rate is 9.62% if I buy through Oct 2022. It's a 30 year investment, but I can withdraw after 5 years without 3 month penalty.

Questions:
(1) Is the interest rate fixed or variable over the term of the bond?
(2) Assuming 9.62% is annual return but definitely want to confirm 🤣
(3) Do most people actually keep it in 30 years? I'm looking at 5 years for now and re-assess

Thoughts on becoming a "Growth & New Initiatives PM"?

I was a regular PM managing my own vertical and now have the opportunity for a new role in the org. No promo or cash related, just jurisdiction wise.

I'd be focusing on:
For old product-
-Free Trial
-automation
For new product-
-Building out from scratch
-UI/UX related user feedback
-sales and marketing focus
-use cases and features

Is this a good move career wise? Love being a PM and looking to grow.
Prefer new product > old

I’m new to Canada and currently working as a BA for the same company I worked for, in India. However, the workload is a lot after I moved here and the pay scale is comparatively low. Problem is, they’re very keen on comparing my current salary and fixing my compensation rather than fixing it based on my performance in interviews and their budget. Is this normal practice here in Canada?

I had my PM 5 on-site interviews at Google yesterday! It was great except for my last interview. My estimation was maybe a 5/10. A few things happened: it was introduced with only 10 minutes, there was a surprise extra person shadowing, and my interviewer turned her camera and mic off twice turning that part of call. I wasn't sure if I should keep going or wait and late I day, I couldn't stop from being thrown. Is there any value in letting my recruiter know that the interview didn't go well?

PMs, If your company is an AWS shop, they just released two new cool features to Cloud Watch that is extremely valuable to PMs. The first one is Cloud Watch Evidently that allows for non-deployment A/B testing and the second is Cloud Watch RUM for user and performance monitoring. Definitely look into them since I’m sure the red tape involved to use them is a lot less that 3rd party tools.

I've completed the final rounds for 2 companies: AWS as an L7 Principal PMT and another that's a Series-A funded startup in the HCM space. I expect offers from both: AWS around $400k TC ($250k base + $150k stock) and the startup should be around $300k TC ($250k base + 20% bonus). If comp wasn't the ONLY consideration, what would you do? The AWS role will be an IC role and more hands-on/technical. The startup will be a CPO role reporting to the CEO with a team of about 50 devs+PMs.
