I am about to return to work after maternity leave. I have a 4 month old and a two year old. Our daycare is periodically closing due to COVID. We don’t have family nearby to help when daycare closes and I’ll be headed into busy season upon my return. I’m already on a reduced schedule. No one else I know is in my shoes in my group/office at EY. How have your families in similar situations dealt with this? I feel like I’ll be very unreliable as we head into the busy season.
If we thought about it back in March, we probably could’ve predicted which companies would do well, like Zoom, Amazon, Instacart, etc. And invested accordingly. Anyone have any thoughts for forecasting the next few months? Opportunities to take advantage of?
First time on United for a few years - delta diamond but just needed a direct flight this morning. Holy cow why do people fly United at all?
Has anyone at Deloitte maxed out their H1B while waiting for perm approval? Does Deloitte put you on a LOA and change you to a B1/ B2 visa?
Anyone been able to successfully go the MBB route and be there for family / kids? Or any thoughts on intentionally avoiding the path to have WLB for that reason?
Why does everyone think that saying they came back from PTO is better than just saying vacation?
I'm sure I'm not the only one, but the holiday season always makes me feel extra lonely. I don't know why I'm putting this here, but this has been one of the more sane and sensible communities I've been a part of. To all the other folks sailing in the same boat - I see you. It may or may not get better. But remember, you don't walk alone (even if you think you do). Okay, thanks for coming to my TED talk. Happy holidays everybody!

Need to get away and thinking about going somewhere for 7-10 days in August. Currently in the Dallas area and looking for a relaxing trip (thinking lazy days on a beach somewhere). Seems that anything outside of the US is a pain or unpredictable with COVID. Have endless miles to use so not really sensitive to price. Thanks in advance.

Met a guy a few weeks ago and had an instant connection, but it’s a fair certainty he’s going to be living in another city starting in 2022. Worth it to keep talking or see where it goes or just cut losses now? Hung out over a week and a half before he went to his parents for thanksgiving and the holidays (he works remote), and it was— fun and the physical attraction was def there. We also just seemed to relate on a lot of things.

Happy layoff hunger games
https://www.yahoo.com/huffpost/district-layoffs-094500928.html For those who have been screaming we can't open the economy back up until there is a vaccine, I hope you realize this is only the beginning of layoffs-and just one sector of economy.
My work is highly focused on inclusion and today, while driving through the park, I felt bad for laughing at a group of larpers. They have nerf combat gear, too. I tried hard not to be insensitive to them being their true selves but i laughed … hard! And now I feel bad for laughing at them.

Anyone else questioning getting an MBA in light of the pandemic and shifting sentiment on remote work? I started a job that’s fully remote and flexible. It’s in a fast moving industry and I feel like taking 2 years away can make me miss out on expected growth that will take place. 2 year grind and then working at some 9-5+ job that won’t be flexible and will likely have to go in office once things are back to normal. With current job I’m making good money and have more personal time.
