What companies offer Maternity/Paternity benefits without having to wait a year? Burnout is an understatement and my wife and I are expecting another child. Current workload is unsustainable and don’t want to keep working myself to death. Many places I’ve seen have Maternity/Paternity leave benefits that start after being there for one year. Any place out there without that requirement?

just start saying no and taking the time that you need, the way staffing is in most companies now they likely won’t fire you for at least a year. also recommend having an honest conversation with your boss, as they would likely be open to making some modifications to keep you around.

Many places allow leave before a year--it's STD/LTD based on the state. FMLA protects your job and doesn't kick in before a year.

Also I think this dude is looking for paid leave (not always the case with FMLA leave)

I moved to Verizon about a month before my daughter was born. Got full insurance coverage for the birth and 8 weeks parental leave day 1.

like

LinkedIn would offer it starting on Day 1. Generally the most desirable companies all offer benefits starting on Day 1.

American Express. I remember a colleague who went on leave for baby before she hit a year. Not sure how it worked on HR side but she did get paid leave. That was back when Amex offered 6 weeks leave only to moms now it’s 20 weeks parental leave for both men and women.

A lot has changed within the past 6 years both for companies and state law concerning parental leave. My advice is to look around, get an offer, ask about the benefits and review them before deciding whether to accept offer.

If your wife isn’t working, the main priority should be continuous medical coverage if you’re planning to switch jobs during the pregnancy. Getting some paid time off after the birth is good but medical coverage cannot be overlooked. Lots of companies cut medical insurance on last day of hire, not through end of the month. Also the insurance carrier at a new job could be out of network for the doctors you’re currently seeing and may have to switch.

Find someone to sell you an AFLAC policy. Great payout on maturity.

My bad.

Wells Fargo a year? They are laying people off in some departments, but their father maturity leave is great.

So you want a company to hire you knowing you plan to be gone 12 to 20 weeks ?

Yes, was I not clear? My family status (protected class) cannot be a deciding factor in their hiring decision.

However, a company’s benefits package is a deciding factor in whether or not I want to work for them.

So you are moving just for paternity leave policy? That sounds pretty crappy to me. Guess you don’t care about your own skills?

I don’t see how leaving a position for better benefits is a negative at all? Most people leave for better comp and benefits or work life balance.

I’d look into the leave afforded by your state. FMLA only applies after 12 months of employment, which is what protects your job. But I’m fairly certain most states are offering some sort of leave… maybe it’s available to you even at your current company?

I'd have to double check how long you need to be employed for first but we offer 16w regardless of gender of parent or adoption etc (ie not tied to medical) as long as you'll be the primary caregiver during that time. There's a guy on my team who's taking the full 16w because he has better leave at our company than his wife does as the one giving birth from her employer so he'll be the main parent for the first few months. I've seen a fair number of men take this leave and love that they're actually taking advantage

Hey all! I am in the middle of interviewing at a healthcare data startup. I've gone through 3 if 5 rounds so far and it seems promising. I originally asked for 180-200k base salary since it's a director level role and I'm coming with ~9 YOE. They said that is at the very top of their budget so I'm looking for tips on how to navigate that conversation and if that comp seems reasonable?
