I don’t think VCs are looking for people with coding experience. They’re basically investment firms who want to make money by investing. Of the two choices, I’d say bizops. Operational experience in a start up would be being involved in running the business and making a dent on profits - either by reducing costs or increasing revenue. For e.g. sales, finance, purchases, customer experience, etc. but not accounting, IT, administration, etc.
No, it would be :). Operational experience in VC is playing any role in inc valuation , not profit
A bit off the path, but you could work as a quant for the VC arms of a major buyside institution. Biggest names I know of are Point72 Cohen Ventures and TwoSigma Ventures.
Once your in, you can probably move around to any VC role you want, and then lateral to a16z.
