But a Mac or a MacBook. They last SO much longer than the garbage Windows computers.

What do you need it for?

There are computers, and there are computers.

Are you technically savvy? Buy the parts off of NewEgg and build it yourself.

Just know Windows? Need tech support? Buy local. You need 8 GB RAM DDR4 or better, dual channel is a thing (install memory in matched pairs). A fast solid state drive for your operating system is a must -- 256 GB ++. DOUBLE CHECK if it has WIFI built in or just wired Ethernet for networking. Need a camera and microphone? Those are separate, too.

Honestly, if you're asking the question of which to get, I'd suggest that you are likely to be in the market for a laptop where at least everything works together.

If a technophobe, Apple Macs are safer than Windows, but you pay a price in cash.

If you are adventurous, get a spare computer and install Linux Mint (Linuxmint.com and install using RUFUS and a USB stick). Why spare? If you're a NOOB, you might change settings and have to reinstall over a blank disk in the laptop. This is upsetting if it's your main computer but just a learning opportunity on an old spare.

Good luck!

Thank you. You’re a welcome font of knowledge!

Honestly? Unless you are spending money on a gaming computer, or you really need zero portability, there is no use for desktops unless you are into some art/music/design.

The last desktop I had was a gateway sometime around the turn of the millennia.

There are some financial pros and cons with laptops vs desktops. Laptops are more expensive for the same level of computing power, but you have the ability to relocate. Desktops can have parts upgraded, but the lifespan will not be extended by too much.

It all depends on what you will be using it for.

smart

Mac, for sure.

I would definitely go with the largest IMac! Put a magnifying screen over it and you will be just fine! Apples last sooooo much better with far fewer problems!!! If you can’t afford it set up a GOFundMe to have people help you! Check and see also if the Lions Club or some organizations like them can also help you! They are always looking to help others!!!

So just throwing this out there. Can agencies give us WFH bonuses to cover the cost of setting up a home office? I had to invest quite a hefty sum for a desk, office chair and upgrade my wifi connection. Also, can we deduct our work space rent area for tax purposes? Every little bit helps!

I am a field marketer. I travel and cover 12 states. HQ is across the US on the east coast. My manager put a surprise calendar invite twice now to go to home office without consulting dates to see if we were available. I stood up and asked to be included on available dates and said I will attend virtually but asking me to be away for 4 additional full days away from my family without asking me is not OK. I already travel a lot and this boundary is super important to me. Am I right or wrong?

Hello RSM coworkers! I am thrilled to be moving to RSM into a Scheduler roll. I just found out yesterday and want to be as prepared as possible in the next steps.

So here are my questions.

How long does the background study take? I'm guessing admin staff have a study that is faster and less complicated than someone in Tax ect.

When training at home what did you need that wasn't supplied by RSM? My home office is well stocked but I want to be as prepared as possible.

Thanks in advance!
