Coolest thing I’ve hear about was using computer vision to look at oil reserves to help predict supply of commodities. Don’t know if it did any good but sounds cool on paper

Ahhh I can’t remember where I read the story, but quite a few years ago someone got satellite images of Target stores (think it was Target) and counted the cars in the car parks. He figured out that the estimated revenue figures were way too low based on the busyness of his selected stores and ended up being very correct. AFAIK satellite imagery now makes up quite a big part of ‘alternative data’ for projections

As you can imagine, I’m sure they get pulled into corporate internal projects too with IT, Corp. Finance, People Services, etc. I’ve interviewed with JPM team that solely focuses on people analytics.

Very interesting, thanks for responses so far. Would anyone think there is scope to disrupt IB through some sort of data driven approach? Or will IB forever remain in the hands of smart salespeople? Could there be a democratization of the deals made only in IB? Not that familiar with these types of deals, but thinking IPOs, capital raise, securitisations etc?

Has anyone ever successfully moved from Account to Creative? I love my job but also want to be more involved in the actual creative process. Would I basically need to restart at the entry level to make a switch like this? I’m great at managing people and giving feedback so would rather just work at an Art Director level, but also realise that is unrealistic without a book. thoughts?

POV: I’m a corporate junior associate and I am 250 hours behind my target to make hours this year (need 2k for bonus). Am I just SOL at this point? My fear is that I’m busting my ass and saying yes to every deal to try to make it up but if I don’t make my hours anyway, I didn’t have to try so hard and stress.
