What do first-year bonuses look like if you surpass your goal by 200 hours? Firm has 1900 req. on track for 2100+ but hear first-years get shafted by virtue of being first-years.

As a first year at 1900 hour firm, billed close to 2500 and got 5k extra.

like

Why?

Following.

like

This is very firm dependent. In big law, most often there would be no additional bonus at 2100. Some firms pay “escalators” at thresholds like 2200, 2300, 2400, 2500

like

A first year at my firm with 2100 hours would get $31k total

Please share firm. Seems like an outlier data point

like

My firm (mid-size) has an 1800 hour billable hour requirement. If I bill 200 hours more than that requirement and bill 2000 hours over this coming fiscal year, I’ll net 25% of my base salary as a bonus.

First-year base salaries at my firm run in the vicinity of $165k to $170k.

My lord. I am getting shafted. Base salary at mid size, $180K. 1900 hour target. Heard a first year cleared 2100 last year and the bonus was $5k.

like

As a first year, you’re not going to get that much extra. The money on top is usually proportional to what your base bonus is, so a senior associate killing it on the way to being partner is likely collecting a lot more for billing well above the threshold than you will.

Watch Fish, I know this is an unconventional post but I am in desperate need of help. I received a necklace from my in laws for my bday and I must have clipped it incorrectly because it fell off and I lost it :( I want to rebuy it but now can’t find it online! It is from Tiffany and is called the “Return to Tiffany Oval I.D. Pendant in Sterling Silver with Diamonds.” Can anyone help me source this from Tiffany directly, or secondhand? I will be eternally grateful!

Litigators -
Anyone else just continually dismayed by the sheer amount of work product they are cranking out? It truly feels like I’m on a hamster wheel of one incredibly substantive document, motion, or pleading to the next. While also juggling the other less substantial but still necessary things that are required to keep litigation rolling. I. Am. Worn. Out.
Hoping I’m just in a bad cycle that will eventually give.

Two days ago I was super excited to accept my offer to join a biglaw firm this summer as a 2L summer associate. I was ecstatic! Now that I've had time to digest it I'm absolutely terrified. I realized that I know nothing about law, how to write a memo, how to use Westlaw or Quicklaw or anything that a summer student should know. I'm petrified that I'll show up this summer make an idiot of myself and not get hired back. Any advice on what I can do to prepare between now and May?

Midlevel associate new to BL but older in age. Because of my prior experience, I have contacts that refer business to me and I can probably charge anywhere between $100-$200k this work. No one at the firm has done this type of work, but I’ve been told it can be helpful*. At smaller firms this would have been good business to bring in. At my current firm, am I making myself look unaware by trying to bring this in? There’s potential to have two or three of these deals in my first few months alone.
