What do folks here think about moving from B4 to a mid-tier, good or bad idea? Same service line, just for a higher salary (~20% bump)

Hit or miss. And also depends on what you want to do…for instance if you know you want to do international tax, I’d say stay in the B4. If just core tax compliance, then sometimes mid tier or lower can even be better especially when you come in with B4 experience. You would be shocked some of the complexity you see. I think some in B4 don’t realize this. You can make good money at a smaller firm and advance. I’m speaking solely from a tax perspective so take that for what it is worth

I did and it’s made my career. I’m a partner that heads up our tax practice serving private equity owned operating companies. I learned this skill set in Big 4 and honed it in a mid-tier firm and parlayed it into a a very nice sales pipeline (with another partner of mine who heads up the assurance side of the practice). Happy to share my experience or, depending your market, I’m always looking for good talent (shameless plug)!

Yeah this is one of the main reasons it would be a good idea, if you want to make partner and don't expect to at B4 (or don't want to deal with the BS). Partners still make good money at mid tier...and even local firms

Having come from mid tier to B4, I can say I never want to go back. Different client size, resources etc

Facts EY1, worked at a mid tier before B4 and no amount of money will ever make me go back In audit I worked way more at my old mid tier than I do at Deloitte

DON'T DO IT! IT'S A TRAP!

I did it and regretted it. The resources and technology are much less compared to Big 4. However, I learned a lot at the mid tier firm because you see more things rather than being specialized at Big4.

Go to another b4 you’ll get a bump

If you're doing it just for salary, then don't. Exit ops aren't as good and if you want to become a partner, that doesn't pay as well either

Yes - what p1 said. At least for tax…only reason to stay big 4 for exit ops is if you specifically want to do corporate tax at a public company. You can make just as much in terms of pay at a smaller firm. The comment that partner doesn’t pay well at smaller is completely false. Even firms with like 40 total people I know of partners are making at least $250K and that’s in LCOL. So adjust that for a HCOL (say NY)…see what you come up with for the equivalent

I’m on the verge of getting an offer from a startup company that was acquired by a $2bn company. I make $70k & no bonus. The offer would be $105k base+10% bonus. To get to the TC the startup is offering, it would take 3-4 years in my DTE at Accenture. The title is 3 titles up from what I currently am. However, it’s a step down from a brand perspective and I’d mostly be working with older people vs. people my age. Thoughts? Opinions?

So this might be a better place to post this and ask this question: Uncle D has announced explicitly that most people won’t get a pay raise & bonus this year except for those promoted and high performers. Amid this crisis, are companies including other big 3, MBB, FAANG, boutique consulting firms still giving high raises and issue stocks? Can you share the impact from your firm?

Hi All, I am very new to this platform. what's the average salary of area manager in sales with 8 yrs work exp in Bangalore?? Should I stick on for career progression or look out for other options??

Have spent years building my career and moved to Canada 2 yrs back. Have changed my job once already to join big 4 but i am not happy at all, work is very demanding, people seems to be leaving all the time, managing clients and expectations and on top of that working with a couple very rude people….. i have spent a decade in taxes but never felt such burn out and intolerance for rude people… not sure if i am not suitable for job in Canada or just having really bad time for last few months.

I work full time in a (foreign) country where employees are protected pretty well. Our agency lost clients and they need to lay people off. I’m on that list too. They are convincing us to accept a voluntary resignation with 5 months of salary. I can refuse (law will protect me) and stay on but I have barely any billable work to do and of course this will create some toxic relationships with management. (CONT)

Currently going through the interview process with a brand I love. I've interviewed with the CMO, completed a work task and presented it back to the team, and met with the CEO / founder. They've just come back to me saying that their creative agency has "offered to help with the process". This seems unusual especially given they're looking to bring all creative in house. First time I've ever heard of this happening - any theories as to why this is now a step in the process? Is it a red flag?

Whatever - my son benefits, but talk about a “Disneyland Dad.” Ugh.
