What do I do if I see a parent out in the community? I want to be friendly, but should I leave them alone?

Smile and say hi to them; parents are people, too. I’ve never had a bad experience yet by doing this.

I always kind of take my cue from the parent (or child’s) behavior. If they are diving into a clothing rack to avoid me (happened), I pretend I don’t see. If they wave and smile, I’m friendly right back.

Grab your bottle of wine and tell the parent that their child is the reason you drink lol works for me but I’m known to joke with parents a lot.

I live in my neighborhood. I see parents all the time. And actually even though I’m in NYC I’ve seen parents everywhere. But the best story I have is being asked out by a parent at a bar in DC. I have realized that we earn our parents trust by seeing them as humans. If you see them say hello. Ask about their student. Refrain from making it a conference.

Say hi. Be friendly. It builds a bond and let's the parents know you are human and are interested in them and their kids. It doesn't have to be a long conversation. Just good PR for you and your school.

I’ll usually smile and wave if I catch their eye. Then if they want to talk more, I’ll go along... some people are in a hurry or just shy, so I let them take the lead. When I see kids in public, I feel like a rock star lol. They’ll yell my name from across the store and wave exuberantly or run up to hug me. Their parents usually will share an amused smile with me and/or say hello, maybe try to calm down their kid. It’s amusing and sweet

Smile and say hi. Don’t talk about academics. Keep the conversation or small talk personal so you can build that relationship with them.

I’m due August 04, 2021 and will take a 6 week maternity leave starting August 2 (assuming the baby doesn’t come earlier than that). My boss asked me when he should stop giving me new files/ease up on my workload. I didn’t know how to answer since I’m the only female attorney here and this is my first baby. Any insight? A bit of a sensitive topic. My son is 3. One of friends has 3 boys and she asked me to babysit them one weekend. The middle child, 10 years old is very handsy with my son. I’ve asked him multiple times to not carry him or hug him since he doesn’t like it and the boy still manages somehow to find his way to be physically close to my son. Today while I had my back turned to them while they were all eating at the dining table I heard a kiss sound and turned to see the… Cont’d below

Our nanny doesn’t start full time with us for another month. Until then, she has agreed to care for our 2 month old and her current family’s 10 month old together, at her current family’s home. Taking care of our baby has been so exhausting for both my husband and me together and I am wondering how will the nanny be able to care for two babies at once. What do you mammas think? I can always extend my mat leave

Anyone dealt with your sibling getting divorced and the SIL fallout? My brother is going though a divorce and it is ugly. She is saying he is “unfit” (he is not). He has a 32 yr old who I am very close to, and a 12 yr old who is my goddaughter. His ex was my bff and now she says he is an unfit father and trying to take away his parental rights. I am stunned. It has fractured us beyond what I thought possible. Do I stay neutral for the nieces? Do I shout at the top of my lungs he is a good guy?
