What do I wear to an account management interview in LA? Are dark jeans too casual?

Don’t do jeans. Having lived in LA for many years and leading account mgmt department I wouldn’t love seeing that. My advice is always- dress for your brand. What is the brand you are building as an account person. Jeans to an interview makes me think I’ll have to coach you on what’s appropriate for the client and having to coach a director level about that is worrisome. It’s LA... why not a colorful skirt and cool shirt with leather jacket. Sundress with a blazer. Keep it simple but don’t do jeans

Ha. Missed the male part. :)

I think so, would you wear dark jeans to meet a client for the first time?

Agree. Show that you can dress to be in a room with any type of client.

Not in my spot. I think dark jeans, button down, maybe a jacket if you want to dress it up. Dope sneakers if you want to seal the deal

Yea, personality is disgusting...

At least wear slacks and a jacket. Crisp white shirt.

Thanks all! I’m coming from out east but wasn’t sure if dressing up per usual would have me appear out of touch on the west coast. (I’ve generally found that this is the case for creatives in suits)

Don’t wear a suit. Are you a man or a woman? If you’re a man, wear nice pants (not jeans), a crisp white button down and a sport coat. No tie. As for shoes, stick with what you’d wear on a date to a cool restaurant. If that’s nice sneakers, wear nice sneakers. Be stylish and be yourself. If you’re a woman, I think dark jeans are actually fine. Women can accessorize an outfit more than a man can, thereby dressing up said jeans. Exhibit A:

Have been through a few rounds of interviews and feel like they have all been great. Last two have been with leaders of various practices and that was supposed to be the end. Now have been asked if I’ll do one more interview with someone in a different specialized practice, and if im interested in that space. Should I take this as a good sign I’ll be offered and they’re trying to place me, or am I being placed on hold while they run down a list of those they liked more and awaiting accepts?
