People like the diversity, the nightlife, the opportunities.
People dislike the cost, the density, and did I mention the cost?
At 25 you’ll likely be paying too much to live in a 3br apartment with 4 roommates. You’ll love the nightlife and the restaurants and also love that you don’t need a car.
But given the covid situation, I would advise not moving into the city until things start to return to normal. Bc the city isn’t worth the cost if you can’t do anything...
I actually think the density is a positive factor - means much more is in easy reach, not as reliant on public transport or driving
FWIW, your apartment situation is entirely dependent on what type of apartment you want/your flexibility in location. At 25, I lived with one roommate in a 2 bedroom luxury building in LIC.
4k total, so 2k per month (advertised price). We got a month free though, and we chose a more expensive building. Plenty of 2 bedroom options around ~3600.

This is where I was heading. Def more single men friendly.
Living in Chelsea atm, don’t move here. Crime is getting bad, subways aren’t safe, nothing to do, etc...
You’d be better off just about anywhere else. The main benefit of NYC was the networking. That’s all over now so there’s no real reason to live here. You’re just paying for 4 walls.

There is no city on earth like Manhattan. You can walk for hours/miles and still be in the city. There is diverse food, culture, people, activities and so on. However right no you certainly would be paying more for a city that you don’t have complete access to. I lived in Manhattan but moved to BK after Covid and remote working became the new norm. I pay less rent and my commute to my office (when it opens) is only 10 minutes longer. My apartment is twice the size of my old one and I don’t have 2 roommates I only have one. Not sure where you live currently but if you can find a 6 month lease in BK or Queens I would consider that but if you can’t do that I would say definitely move to Manhattan.
I work in management consulting though, so we never went to the office. We’re at clients Monday-Thursday and remote on Fridays.
