By midnight for all.
I’d say it means 8:59am in your inbox.
Add a fourth even rarer acronym SOB. By “Start of Business” <date> meaning before 8AM local time
I like you
COB/EOB - 5pm local/client time
EOD - either 11pm or 5am
Best practice: clarify with actual times.
EOD is the only one I dare commit to.
Cycles. Bandwidth. Time. Availability. All the same word.
Close of business, end of day, end of business. 1 and 3 I would interpret as 5pm-ish whereas 2 could be midnight or whenever the team stops working for the day.
All mean ASAP
By 8am the following morning for all
Mostly agree; however, I'd change it to "as late as I need it to be before I show up to work (in person or virtual) tomorrow morning"
I know EOD is end of day what about the other two ? This guy just asked me today if I have any cycles ? And I was like what ?
Yes. Cycles/time/bandwidth. Cycles as in computing cycles.
in practice, usually
COB/EOB = by 5pm, recipient’s timezone
EOD = before recipient logs on next morning
.. but a good idea to explicitly ask when working with a new team
This is different if the client says it. Internal it could mean 8 AM the next day. But if I need it for a client I'll give a real time.
It is always fair to ask.
