Which companies did you go to after FAANG?
I just joined CG as a Senior Consultant. I was searching for other people in Teams and I can see others with ‘Lead Consultant’ particulary those based on Australia. I am from Philippines and our designation level is usually like assoc consultant, consultant, sr consul then manager. No ‘lead consultant’. Why is that so? Capgemini

I don’t think there’s a long term future for them in terms of company growth. If autonomous becomes a reality, they are SOL even with partnerships. Cruise/Waymo can build their own hailing platforms quickly and will want to go direct. The alternate mobility market is fine, but very competitive market that’s fairly stable at this point (the scooter rage is past it’s peak).
Even short-term they seem to have some driver supply and pricing issues vs. Uber, may be more anecdotal though.
They pay top-of-market for tech roles (swe/pm/ds) and market or below for non-tech. One year grants so limited upside/downside though in either direction worst case is covid which halved the price and best case is back to ipo price (double), which I think is unlikely to happen short-term anyways. They laid off ~20% of their workforce during covid.
Anecdotally a lot of people seem to be leaving for “newer/shinier” things (their CFO left for open sea, NFT for example) ride-share is stable market with limited growth opps so somewhat understandable. Growth opps in career may be more limited as company slows, but may be more opps if attrition in higher-level roles is high, not sure that’s ideal.
At the end of the day, it’s not a sinking ship but it’s not a rocket ship either. Probably a decent place to work if you’re interested in the space overall. Better if you’re in a tech role of course for $$$.
I’ve been looking at them too…I think they look good, and think beyond just ride sharing. Their investment in alternative mobility and transportation in general seems good. As a former Facebooker, I’d say they’re just as relevant as meta. Transportation is proven need, virtual worlds aren’t yet. Not saying the new shift at meta isn’t cool, but it’s a solution without a problem. Transportation of all kinds is a solution to known problem of needing to get around. IMO.
Well put! It’s just that Meta is clearly a profitable company and that makes me feel better
I mean, if your plan is to retire there, then I get your hesitancy. But I don't think we're anywhere close to autonomous vehicles becoming mainstream, and with so much focus on the climate change initiative, I'd say the number of people trying to do better by ride-sharing will only increase, at least for a while. If their roles intrigue you, I'd say go for it!
Agree. There are a lot more kinks to work out than people are aware of.

Who cares if it's got long term potential?
Guess so
What are you skeptical about?
I’ll chime in that “hot”doesn’t necessarily mean lucrative. Web3 might be a giant bubble and I wouldn’t go there if you’re wanting security…again, a solution without a problem, somewhat like virtual reality shift at meta.
Thanks for everyone’s comments. I guess what I want to work on is the future of work and Lyft seems like the closest one working on innovations in the space but not sure. Although there’s also work in the metaverse web3 but that feels less tangible or pressing an issue right now.
