It depends.
Here is why they are interesting. They did offer me 180k for a dev role recently which is way higher than what I make. They also agreed to maintain typical consulting travel schedule of Mon-Thu and work from home. In case I wanted to move to client location, they agreed to provide the benefits of not traveling.
If not for visa I would have seriously considered it. It would have typical top down management of Indian IT companies but that was sweet money.
I have worked for couple of Indian IT cos and never faced any abuse but I hear it now and then, so, I guess it must be happening. But, then again, the same is true for Consulting firms as well. It’s not so simple and easy to generalize.
The biggest problem in a lot of these companies has been the manager dominated culture. There used to be a rat race to be a manager in these companies so that they could escape from writing code. This created a middle management of YES managers who had hardly any skills to show for and always believed in saying yes to client and pushing resources to achieve the goals.
However, recently, this has started to change. There are significant reports even in news media of rapid firing of mid level managers. I have even heard some cases from personal connections.
Coming to my recent call, my first two telephonics were with people who had worked for Big 4 and ACN strat and based on conversation, it seemed like they were genuinely interested in creating a niche consulting practice for the kinds of work I do.
I would suggest you to talk with them before jumping to any conclusions based on complete generalizations and subjective experiences (including mine) here. At worst, you will lose half an hour of your life.
I once interviewed at tata a few years ago. They made me fly in and out for an in person interview on the same day, which was at 2pm. The interviewer then showed up at 3pm, only to realize that they double booked the interview time slot, so the other guy with an interview at 2pm et had to wait until 4pm... he might have missed his flight back home. They took 2 months to give me an offer, which was 30k less than what I asked for. If that's any indication, I'd REALLY stay away...
Thanks
