What do y'all think of this Forbes article? I think placing more ownership in the hands of internal SME's is valid, but entirely removing consultants whom have lessons learned through the practice of numerous large transformations would be a mistake

McKinsey & Company Bain & Company Hey everyone -
Not the exact right bowl, but looking for advice/referrals for a close family friend trying to break into ESG/climate change/sustainability consulting.
They have ~7 YOE in finance (mostly junk debt, some S&T) and 20 YOE in development banking at an IGO (think World Bank, doing everything from public debt offerings, infrastructure, etc. all w heavy ESG/compliance requirements).
Thanks for the help!

Companies would be 100x smarter hiring people on direct for a few years than paying for consultants but companies do dumb things all the time and that’s why we exist.

I find it a little silly. Are internal consultants also willing to work 60+ hours a week to deliver everything within budget and within the timeline? Absolutely not

It would definitely be cheaper but what might take 3 months would probably take 6-12

OP I think you’re just patting your own back...
How so?
I've had plenty of clients who know their industry/ workstream like the back of their hand but struggle to connect the dots between function and technology. A little nudge from individuals experienced in large transformations helps wonders; to staff 100s of consultants to build out the functional design I don't think makes sense, but that's our money maker and people still buy into it...
