How have you begun to develop an expertise? Beyond project work, is it a lot of reading in the industry/field you want to be an expert in? I’m finding that it’s generally difficult for me to recall information from past work or projects... do I need to take the same care in building knowledge like we did in University (taking notes, constant learning, etc.)?

It’s 5th week now since I joined EY and still not assigned to any project. Counsellor is saying they are working on it.
Does it really takes this much of time? Can we really stay this long on bench And is it going to affect my performance?

I have a partner who routinely ignores emails or responds to them several weeks later. He has to approve every single document sent to the client or the court, which means you have a physically go to his office to ask him to review something. Half of the time you go to meet with him in person, he’s either on a call or otherwise busy. I find that this basically creates more work and makes meeting deadlines extremely difficult. Is this normal?

Our product is launching EoY and our whole team has to work over the holiday break to cover the launch ...FML/I hate this industry. Why can’t we tell client no one cares about your product on Xmas

How do you stay motivated to keep grinding when you don't actually believe in the value of the problem your solving? In a spot where our deadline for delivery of a pretty innovative solution the client isn't really mature enough for was arbitrarily set for end of the quarter due to funding and premature promises to the CEO. Having an extremely difficult time putting any effort in because I kindof think the program should fail and not reward this type of thoughtless planning and prioritization.

Joined my firm 1.5 years ago (3rd year, lit) and have been slow since Day 1. Missed my hours target last year and am on track to be just as slow this year. I am staffed on a few cases but they’re quiet right now, and I regularly ask for work just to be ignored or told “thanks, but I have nothing.” Reviews have been good, I’m just not working enough. I like the partners I work with, and the work they do, but I am scared I’ll be fired if I miss my hours again this year. Should I be looking?
