What do you do about colleagues who want non urgent tasks done ASAP that have dependencies on people who are over capacity or OOO?

This week alone i’ve had to continually remind people that one person we have a major dependency on has been out for the past 6 business days. The task they want done isn’t live or die and isn’t customer facing. I’m annoyed and sick of communicating this

Ignore them? Escalate to your manager?

This is basic priority management. 1) If people are over capacity or OOO then it’s a simple conversation regarding availability and timing.

If they are a colleague (and therefore presumably a peer) or even a stakeholder, then your manager can set the priority, or you can work with your manager to say I can do X but then Y must wait until [insert revised target date, here].

People have come to expect instant gratification with technology and forget people are human. You also need to set boundaries (set a certain time to respond to these types of inquiries). Often times we are so quick to respond bc it’s something easy enough to do that we don’t realize we are sending the message to people to continually expect the same. In other words, #makethemwait if you can.

Hi,
I'm about to resign from my current company as I found another role, relocating back to my home country, at a competitor company with a much higher role as I'll be assisting the CEO.

I really like my current boss, he's genuinely lovely and has been nothing but good to me. The empath in me is feeling sad at the idea of telling him as he has no idea it's coming.

Have any of you been in that situation and how did you handle it? I've never resigned
I'll tell them verbally then by email

I felt toxic culture in my team and from manager. Like whenever I ask a question, the attitude is figure it out because you are an account group supervisor. My manager micromanages and she told her boss how I’m underperforming. Gives an example that i didn’t forward an email..
Her boss gets on a call with me and says she wants to hear my perspective but basically dismisses anything I had to say, hinting I suck. Wanna quit, altho wish I could stay for a diff team but this is too toxic for me.

I started at a new company about 2 months ago. I joined during a slow period of work and going into the holidays has practically been nothing. However when I do need approvals on things or direction from my boss it is radio silence. I can not get a response to save my life and I feel as if people are getting frustrated with me because of this. It also makes me feel as if there is no urgency in my position or the company in general. Wondering if this is even the right company for me.

Currently going through a phase at my company where I feel like I’m under minded and though I’m in a senior role, given mundane tasks to do. Which isn’t engaging me or helping me to contribute to the wider team. Any advise on how to have a conversation with my MP? I’m 6 months in this new company.

Could use some help with an awkward dynamic.

My Dept has been tapped to help another dept promote a DEI study. The client dept has hired a consultant in this area. The challenges I see with this consultant's work style:

-dominating conversations
-micromanaging things outside her area
-steering things toward her own promotion over our company's agenda
-people in my dept (mostly white) are visibly uncomfortable and reluctant to interrupt or contradict her (black woman)

I feel like I made a big mistake accepting my EA role at my company. I was told I would not be doing personal errands often for the CEO, but now I am picking his daughter up from school and getting his designer curtains custom hemmed. Coworkers have included me in their projects, & he is now removing me from those bc “they take up too much of my time”, when they are the only tasks I enjoy bc I am actually adding value to the company. Idk what to do bc he “seems to be my way or the highway”.

A woman I worked with until this week took seven weeks of medical leave and two weeks after she came back she resigned to go to a competitor. Not a “landed it in two weeks” kinda job, either, so she was clearly using at least some of her “leave” to interview, etc.

Don’t know if I’m pissed or impressed TBH.
