What do you do to celebrate a promo, raise, or new job?

“Treat Yoself” is my mantra. To celebrate career milestones, I treat myself to vacations. For small wins, I opt for desserts or beauty services.

International solo trips. If State side, I go somewhere with beaches and/or mountains.

I know this sounds a little weird, but I honestly don’t really find myself “caring” that much about promos and raises from a celebration perspective. Like, raises come every year in consulting so far and promotions sort of feel cyclical as well. So it just feels like a part of work/life to me - maybe I’ve just been lucky. However, I usually do use promotions as an “excuse” to do something nice for myself (mostly because I have more money coming in then so it feels ok) and try to use it to reflect a bit about where I am, where I’ve been, and where I’m going. So, normally use it as an excuse to go out to a very nice dinner at a restaurant on my bucket list - but ultimately this is just something I like to do but don’t feel I should spend on all the time so this is sort of just a way of scheduling it haha. Then some kind of like beautiful/relaxing solo activity like a long hike, a day at the beach, a spa day, a day at a pool (a lot of these ideally in conjunction with a night at a nice hotel in a beautiful location). I honestly treat birthdays the same way. And again, this sort of reflection and pleasant relaxation is something I like to do and promotions are just sort of a trigger to do it for myself. My husband does like to really celebrate new jobs/promotions/big raises for himself - he definitively wants to “ball out” (lol) - really fancy dinner with high end booze, expensive whiskey and crazy steaks, fancy item, going to some type of private event, buy some type of high end/bucket list item like a fancy watch or whatever. I think for him these things are always like “I MADE IT I MADE IT” and he wants to FEEL that feelings of “I made it”.

I usually use it as an excuse to buy something I have been eyeing for awhile. Example: Burberry trench, a piece of jewelry, etc. I don’t go seek out something to buy, and it has to be something I’ve been lusting after. Also (and I know this sounds silly) but I have a guilty pleasure with fast food because I usually eat healthy. If I want to celebrate something, my default isn’t going to a fancy restaurant, it’s to order a variety of fast food LOL. McDonald’s nuggets, fries, Big Mac, yummmmmmm. That’s how I treat myself 😂😂

A nice meal, usually Thai, or dessert! I used to also treat myself to a tiny shopping outing (I try not to go over $100) for new work clothes/apparel, and even then it used to be Marshall’s or century 21.

Are any of you CDs that were promoted to GCDs at small to mid-size agencies where the creative department is not technically divided into groups? If so, what added responsibilities were assigned to you with the promotion? I don’t work at a large agency with the traditional pyramid structure of a GCD having multiple CDs on specific accounts reporting to him/her. I work on 14 accounts.

I took a new job in order to move across the country for my husband's promotion and I hate my new job. The role sold to me by the recruiter and company leadership is not at all what I am actually doing. I am so overworked it's unreal. At first I thought that maybe I just sucked, even though I'm a seasoned sales professional with 11 years experience, but then I found out that I have 227 accounts vs the 35 & 64 that my counterparts have. Do I go over my boss's head and discuss with leadership?

Has anyone tried rolling their Roth or traditional 401k at EY into their IRA while still at EY? I'm thinking of rolling my 401k balance to my IRA for more flexibility to invest in stocks/ETFs vs just mutual funds. Is there any value in keeping the funds in a 401k vs rolling them into an IRA?
