What do you do to decorate your room? A theme? Or just plain?

I have mostly juniors and seniors so I try to stay away from the cutesy and themed stuff. I do like to have my room very me with matching pieces, a modern farmhouse palette, real plants, and fake flowers. I use lamps for lighting and have my room extremely organized. I put up seasonal touches and rotate some items/canvases. I like to think of my classroom style as relaxed, but functional and focused.

This is my vibe too! Also high school.

I decorate with my interests (mostly sci-fi stuff and tropical scenes from old calendars) and things related to the curriculum. Kids enjoy making connections and learning about what I like, as I learn about what they like.

I am sorry but I laughed so hard, because my son who is 8 said the same thing. Mom just be plain, no one is jolly.

One corner of the room is “mine” but it’s gifts and pictures students have given me over the years. I have college pennants around the top border of the rest of the room (anywhere I can get them). Critical stuff is by the door (the Williams Act info, lost papers, scholarships, etc). A motivational quote sign (given by students). Everything else is blank at the beginning but I fill it with student work as the year progresses—stuff where I’d like them to look at each other’s. And I always put up everyone’s—no choosing which are best/cutest. I have chosen themes in the past and used them to cover my lower windows so I can leave the blinds up without passing kids staring in. In most recent years that’s where I put the class norms posters that the kids make ☺️

I am a Bus Driver/Lunchroom Aide and the kids know I love Marvel Superheroes, so on my bus I have Avengers stuff all over. They love it !!! (I have an elementary route and a middle school route)

I generally choose a major color and a repeating element. I also always use lamps instead of the overhead lights when possible. This year’s color is blue (aqua/navy) and butterflies (not all over the room, just a few key areas). I also choose inspirational posters and led lights around one board.

I am an ocean theme always!

I teach FACS so it’s lots of cooking, sewing, college, career and critical thinking decorations.

I teach ELA and I’m a huge Harry Potter fan so my room is a Harry Potter theme. I don’t change it yearly because I have no energy for that.

I have a big pencil-art drawing of Jerry Garcia on my wall. It reminds me of the Walt Whitman portraits in “Dead Poets Society”, except the poet is slightly more modern.

Fall decorations, then Christmas/winter, and then spring! All mixed in with word walls, classroom expectations, etc.

My theme is “There Seems to Have Been aStruggle. “ nothing seems to go together except they are all positive messages.

My theme is Star Wars ( Jedi Academy) … I only use black and white to decorate the walls so my classroom is clean.
