It’s all about routine. Walk to work early. (NYC) Listen to my favorite podcasts. Work uninterrupted for a few hours. Put out fires during the day. Set standards that let me leave at a reasonable time. Go to the gym to blow off steam. Make dinner and get some quality time with the wife. We both talk about our goals and how to help each other achieve them. Then we watch our favorite streaming show before crashing. That’s a perfect day to me. Never stressed. Never bring work home. I get it all done during the day and so I don’t have to. Sometimes, an occasional weekend. Repeat.

In the same boat. Bless you. Balance is achievable if you set the right standards. Not all of us are this lucky, but you know... it’s possible.

I make it a point to remember my blessings and to be grateful. To recognize that millions of people don’t have a job, even the stressful l one that I have. I also remind myself that I am a matured person, that I always have a choice and I can leave a job that I think sucks. Yes, even if I have bills to pay.

Heading home immediately from work, order take out, have a good w*nk, snack a little, curl up in bed with a glass of wine and Netflix till 12am, sleep.

Strange how you never regret having a w*nk, you won’t ever say to yourself ‘that was rubbish’! But many times I’ve had a rubbish $*/k and wished I hadn’t bothered. Just thought I’d share that observation.

Leave at 4pm one day a week. Leave work at the office. Plan at least one lunch a week out of the office with a friend/contact/ lead. Plan at least one evening activity (dinner/show/movie) a week. Indulge in a goddamned treat whenever you want.

I have a dog so getting to see his happy floppy little face makes me both accountable to getting things done during the workday, and accountable to my sweet baby in getting outside and making sure I’m not just crashing all evening- tho sometimes when I am SO exhausted, that is not the best ;)

Plan a lunch or dinner with friends during the week. Schedule an evening massage or mani/pedi. Binge watch a new show. Work out. Go for a walk or bike ride in the neighborhood. Call family and catch up on the phone. Make future plans for upcoming weekends.

Since I work for an advertising agency on an entertainment account, work ends pretty late anywhere from 9 to 11pm. So I start my days early and do non-work related activities such as exercise, read, hang out at a coffee shop. Anything that relaxes my mind to start the day.

Fellow Fishes - How did you all deal with failure in your career. I was ambitious and smart. I was in IBM and considered to be one of the best of my class. I was fired and haven’t really found my way. I don’t know what to do anymore. 3 years after the fact, I am still at an entry level position. I hate myself for letting things get this bad but I don’t know how to get out of this perpetual cycle. I tried working my ass off but have not been able to shake off that unfortunate past.

Visiting SO’s brother in nyc for the week. Mentioned wanting to invite my friend (female) to join us for Friday plans. Brother in laws wife is out of town that Friday but became somewhat uncomfortable when she realized my friend (who is considered hot) and goes oh it’s a hot girl? Brother in law was then like oh I don’t need to go then. I have my wife and my soon to be baby. Found it all very weird as I don’t mind SO going to see hot friends of the opposite sex but then again we are (cont’t)

Hey everyone! Recent transplant (26 F) who moved here during Covid (family reasons) so still not quite familiar with the areas. I’m currently living in Brentwood but looking to move. I’m considering Marina Del Rey as I want to be a bit closer to the office (in Venice) and the airport for when things open back up/travel resumes. I tried searching here but didn’t see a lot - what is the reputation of Mar Vista (and if possible - how is that different than Brentwood?). All opinions welcome! 🙂
