One tip from my group therapy are to play “the alphabet game” to stop running negative thoughts. Like go through the alphabet and list a fruit, veggie, city etc that starts with that letter of the alphabet.

Another tip is to schedule a time each day to worry, be depressed etc, then allow yourself 30 mins to have those thoughts/feelings then move on

Yoga is great. It is like meditation but more active because if your brain goes to a different place you fall over, so it keeps you in mind/body balance. And it juices up your endorphins so you get a real chemical boost.
Agree therapy/talking to someone is really important.

I also did EMDR trauma therapy which desensitized the traumatic responses in my brain. So I remember the episodes, and appreciate they were terrible situations, but my body is not flooded with the same traumatic response. It’s a very strange methodology but I can say it worked for me! (Note I have a bunch of “small T traumas” not a “big T trauma” like some folks have. So even if there is not one big issue, it cleans up the little junk that overloads the subconscious.)

Seek help! After being sober for one year I couldn’t help but be in my thoughts I always asked myself what good has it done me to stop drinking maybe one more won’t hurt. I kept telling my self life was so boring and I needed to do more to enjoy it. It was me all in my head trying to justify drinking again and feeling like I didn’t want to get out of bed. I would start projects and leave them half finished.one day I decided I’m going to talk to the doctor and tell him how I feel. My anxiety, depression and self loathing had taken its toll. I got put on lexapro and hydroxyzine and now I feel great. Sometimes we hate to admit to ourselves that we need help and I feel like that is the hardest step. Tell yourself what is the worst thing that can happen if I just go talk to a dr for 5 mins? Might say your fine and you tried. Or go see a counselor they will listen most insurances cover them but keep persevering… YOU GOT THIS!!!

Just hang out alone in the woods and pay attention to the life around you

I’m looking to take my parents on a surprise trip to somewhere in the Caribbean or Mexico in December (traveling from the east coast). So I’m planning on leaving my position before school starts, but the application and interview process has been slow. At this point I’m afraid I won’t find a job until late July. Should I let my school now and let them post my job as an anticipated position? I’d hate for them to have to find someone last minute, but I also want to keep that school as a fall back just in case. Recently I got call from my project manager to return to office from next month and I need to relocate to other state since there is no project ODC at my base location. I said am not willing to relocate due to family dependency. Am not sure how my PM will get back to me on this.

I might have a spending problem. I don’t think (?) I have a full blown addiction, but I’m cleaning out my closet and finding stuff that is few years old, still with the tags on, and lots of duplicates. I get a dopamine hit when I find a good deal and I’m wondering if it’s going too far. I can pay my bills, but I’m wasting a lot of $$ on things I don’t need. I am a manager at a public accounting firm and an alcoholic dry about 8 years. I am struggling mightily with people both up and down. It is self centered thoughts and behavior with control a necessity that get me into conflict consistently. I was going to meetings and working a program pre-pandemic and did not have nearly as much conflict. I know the answer is get back to working a program then but I struggle with that because I’ve become a workaholic and as sick sounds may like conflict & drama

Slipping back into overeating. There is no possible way I’m still hungry and I just can’t stop eating. I always find some way to rationalize in the moment. I lost 30 lbs last year and am slowly gaining it back. I feel so powerless
