What do you do to verify I9 documents if employee works off site? Not remote but they work out of location 2+hours away and owners not clear if they pay for travel for me. DHS is ending remote verification and the instructions I read on I9 say should be verified in person. I'm in a small business and they had the employees sending in pictures of documents...is there any consequence to keep doing that?

We used Form i-9 (the company) for all of our remote employees even pre-covid. They had a notary network that allowed for remote i9 verifications anywhere in the US.

In terms of consequences…you technically shouldn’t be doing it that way. But this is HR, unless you have an audit coming where are the consequences coming from?

Hahaha very true

To remain compliant, we use the 'friends and family option'. Hires have anyone 18 or older do section 2 on a printed out I9. We will have an electronic solution soon though instead to make things easier.

Seriously thinking of taking a 6 mo sabbatical and getting away from it all for a while next year. Potentially travel around the world in Q3 / Q4 presuming the pandemic situation has improved. I know it will set me back from making Partner by at least 1 year but who cares? I feel like it will be a life changing experience (traveling around the world part).

Feeling a bit lost, working as a Mid-Market account manager for a listed company in Aus and moved across from marketing (3yrs exp) last year.

Company restructures so I've landed in an great paying position but it's a dead end and will probably be made redundant in 12-18 mths, and it's a tick box role (won't learn much tbh).

Do I look to go back to marketing with a pay cut, look at a different company in sales (but don't have much exp), or ride this out and reassess in 6-12mths? Thank you.

Hello fellow HR pros! I really need your opinions on HR certifications. I am deciding between PHR and SHRM-cp. I have read just about all there is online comparing the two and can not decide. My heart is telling me PHR, my mother in law (an HRBP) is telling me to go with SHRM, as it’s more widely recognized, more established and a larger network in general. I work for a 350~ company who is growing rapidly through M&A. Passions/interests are compliance, strategic vision, M&A, branding and culture

Any thoughts on the best certifications to get in order to help move forward? I have considered the CCP from World at Work, but it’s fairly pricey to get by the time you wrap up everything. I was looking at both SHRM-CP and SPHR. Everyone that I have spoken to has the SHRM, but that’s also only looking at individuals in a small geographic footprint and within 3-4 different companies. I was hoping to get some thoughts on this from others? Thanks

I’m not old BUT when I was younger I thought it was important to have all the alphabets after my name (I.e. Phr, SHRM and all the others). I learning that the younger crowd coming into the market thrives off these identifiers yet they know very little about the real world aspects of the job. I watch leadership roll their eyes at the email footers. I feel like keeping those attached to my name hurts my credibility so I removed them…. I’m I thinking wrong?
