What do you do when your SO is so naive that she tells her employer during a promotion interview that her long term plan is a career in academia.

"Her employer will make decisions based on merit alone" Hahahhaahahhaha

like

She sounds perfect for a career in academia 👍🏻

like

She's not stupid, she's just a dreamer/optimist. My husband is the same, and it's our job as the pragmatics to work harder to help them see the light (when necessary).

like

Sounds she's ready to start working on that long-term plan right now. What's stopping her? What's stopping you from encouraging her to do so?

like

I think it's fine. Leave her alone.

And she refuses to see the flaw in that, her argument is that there is no need to lie about long term plans, and her employer will make decisions based on merit alone

like

Tell her you arent sure marriage is in your long term plan. She'll see the other side real quick

like

Sorry OP, idk what to tell ya. Maybe use counterexamples (e.g. Assholes who have been promoted, good people who don't, etc.)

like

I know, it's just hard to call a grown woman with two masters stupid

like

Having this similar issue...SO doesn't get business is not academia, you gotta play the game not just perform well.

like

I was very straight up that being in consulting wasn't in my long term plans. I still got hired.

like

Naive is not stupid, but just point out that companies invest in their employees for the long term (sadly not true for most companies) and they would expect a similar commitment. That said if somebody insists on being that transparent they may not want to keep their goals a secret.

like

I would say consulting is a slightly different business, there it is acceptable to only do it for a bit, in fact it's part of a lot of firms business models.

like

Lol m2

like

Dont marry her

Leave her

Drop her like she's not ... Drop her like she's hot

She's stubborn as well. You will have to let her listen to her own music.

I have been approached for a new job opportunity. Its a good company & normally I would definitely go ahead with the next step but I just found out that one of my ex-colleagues is in the same team that I'm being approached for. It would be at the same level. This person was a really bad employee & really ruined the team culture.. The only good thing I can say about this person is that they were smart enough to quit before being fired. I'm apprehensive to even try & interview here. Any advice?

Interviewed for a senior technical position at a startup (about 50 employees). During the interview the CEO spent about 20 minutes answering my questions. There was no discussion about my technical skills or experience. They emailed that they are working on an offer. Is the interview process a redflag? The only technical screening that happened was the HR lead's 10 minute phone call.

Hi Friends, I need urgent help. Suppose in experience letter my designation is test specialist but in candidate form of EY I gave senior test specialist. Will it be problem? Actually after getting promotion I thought I became senior test specialist so gave senior test specialist in EY form. As next band is for senior people and I wrote as senior test specialist. But later I saw it was test specialist designation in my current company. Will that create problem in verification?

I recently started at a larger software company as an AE. As I’m getting more into the process, I’m finding things odd. Like, cold calls and emails are metrics I’m judged on more than closed won business. I know that’s part of the job but it seems strange I’m judged on it so heavily. And, I seem to be the first real outside AE hire as everyone else seems to have been promoted up from SDR roles, including all of my direct management. I’m questioning if I made the right move. The senior and SM on my project (both guys) have worked together before, and seem to be very close. The SM started involving the senior in meetings that I wasn’t even aware about to divide and conquer. I am a newly promoted Manager, and have tried not to make a big deal about it. The client asked for an extension, but the SM doesn’t want to include me to keep costs low. I’ve provided feedback to the senior on deliverables, and often times he responds “let’s ask SM”.
