That’s the trick with “balance”. There are trade offs. You will have to make a lot of decisions in your career and have to prioritize what’s most important to you.
Life is all about choices. If the firm said they needed me to do a certain client in a different industry for a year or two, and then I could pivot back to my preferred industry (or perhaps even do both), I’d probably consider it. I’d still hold tight to my WLB and flexibility though - and draw my boundaries wherever I needed to - a new team and industry doesn’t mean you can’t still have WLB and flexibility.
Definitely agree, but in this case, it sounds like it’s a more permanent path rather than temporary.
I’ve also been very vocal about my interests and overall goals but that doesn’t seem to have gotten anywhere.
Nothing is permanent. I would ride along with the good WLB for a while. Definitely stay at your current firm through the 2022 slow season (through 9/30 at least). Then if you still feel unhappy with your assignments and don't see a path ahead, perhaps start exploring exit opportunities (other firms, industry). Get offers, and decide if the offers are more appealing than the current job on the table. And then if you decide to stay for another busy season, revisit again in May 2023.
But in the interim times just enjoy the wlb and don't worry. The opportunities will come.
